Good evening everyone,
After several years of just going back to playing Rock Band religiously but not authoring, Im back authoring again, and having to re-learn everything I thought I knew! I think Ive finished one song for guitar and vocals (Chers Save Up All Your Tears), but whilst starting a second song I have hit a snag that has killed me all day. I dont expect anyone to do this for me of course, but Id like your opinions. The song I am trying to tempo map is the 7 min 38 sec version of Celine Dions Its All Coming Back To Me Now. I just cannot get the tempo right. I have a horrible feeling that the tempo changes repeatedly throughout the song, but after following tuition video after tuition video, Im still not getting it. To make matters worse, the opening minute is mainly just piano and sound effects, so there is no beat to go off, and if I go off what I think the tempo is later in the song, it goes completely out. Can anyone who is more of an expert on tempo mapping just listen to the first couple of minutes or so of the song and see what you think. If you guys think it shouldnt be that hard, Ill keep at it. But Ive spend literally HOURS all day on it and Im almost ready to give up on this song before Ive even started. And I thought the vocals on this one were going to be tough! ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
Thank you guys, and glad to be back on it again.

Yes Im using all the same stuff Ive always used including Reaper, following the brilliant instructions and downloads on this site from like 6-7 years ago. I saw a couple of more recent Reaper tempo videos off YouTube too but the methods didnt work for me. Im convinced it keeps changing in the song and that Im going to have to learn how to keep changing it myself bar to bar, but with like 220 bars in the song, and the first 20-25 being without any decernable beat at all, its a headache. I can find somewhere online to plonk the song temporarily if that helps? Or find a place it can be found online if anyone can listen to it briefly – its the 7:32 min version. The project so far just has the song inserted in it and nothing else!

MrPrezident: https://db.c3universe.com/songs/all/__user/MrPrezidentMay 14, 2020 at 12:51 am #511435I may have answered my own question unfortunately. Looking at the sheet music for this online it notes that some parts of the song are at tempo and the time signature keeps changing from 4/4 to 2/4 throughout. BPM estimates also vary wildly from 80 to 92. Looks like this one is going to be beyond my expertise at the moment!
May 14, 2020 at 3:33 pm #511442Well the offer stands if you reconsider, good luck!

MrPrezident: https://db.c3universe.com/songs/all/__user/MrPrezidentMay 14, 2020 at 5:54 pm #511446Thanks buddy. The piano score has actually massively helped as those extra 2-beat bars and the slowing tempo were the cause of the confusion. I have managed to tempo map it and although it looks all over the place tempo-wise, Im going to put the vocals and guitar in now and see what it looks like at the end. If it doesnt work I will come back-on and upload it to get your expert eyes on why it might have gone wrong!

For 3 bucks, you can purchase a cover that has tracks for each instrument, and vocals. More importantly, for your problem, they include a click count track that will give you the tempo map (for their cover, not for the actual audio) with all the time signature changes.
Karaoke Version is a great resource, and my go-to source for many songs.
