Alright, this question is for people with music theory knowledge, or actual piano experience.

I have a question about reducing chords down to lower difficulties. More so, what notes to omit when reducing.

I understand that in the end this is a game, and that a lot of people would not even notice, but I’m looking for help on a show floor possible file, and I want the best charting I can have.

I have a series of 3-note chords which I wish to reduce down to 2-note ones on some lower difficulties. Is it better to omit the note which make it best sounding (usually the 5th), or what makes it better visually to play? (progression below)

    G Major

    ########

    IV: E G C

    V: F# A D

    I: G B D

    VI: E G B D

The chords are close together which makes them visually nice. If I remove the 5th from each, the first chords become spaced, while the second two remove close. Is this still technically better? Or should I just remove whatever keeps the gameplay* of the chords more relative to the expert chart movement?

Ultimately, I think the spacing rules out placing thirds everywhere for lower difficulties. Sometimes those thirds would need to be inverted into sixths, and like you said, there’s sometimes too much space between reduced chords.

In your example, I ‘d do G-C, A-D, G-D, G-B. Mostly perfect fifths, but it keeps that whole range within 5 notes, and you’re getting a good indication of what each chord is.
