Is there any way for you guys to create a pro keys preview thing in Reaper like you do with the standard instruments? It would be really helpful if that could be made somehow.
August 30, 2014 at 6:29 pm #428307Well, we didn’t make the preview windows we currently have. That’s all on Harmonix.
As for making a Pro Keys one, we’d need someone that is a) Good with programming (fairly sure the ones Harmonix made were with C++) and Willing to spend their time making a program from scratch for such a niche audience.
Not saying it won’t be done, it’s just not something you can whip up in a day or two.

But yeah, it can be done. But those who would, don’t know how and those who know how haven’t shown any interest in doing it.

August 30, 2014 at 7:54 pm #428311I don’t have the info handy but my understanding is they were created by a RBN author early on. I’ll see if I find that info later.

Markleford. Harmonix paid him for it.

September 15, 2014 at 10:53 am #429223I’d personally be pretty keen on a vocal preview window. Just because I’d feel more comfortable starting vocals charting if I could see how it looked in game rather than looking at the MIDI screen

Just because I’d feel more comfortable starting vocals charting if I could see how it looked in game rather than looking at the MIDI screenReally, the only major differences are that you have different colours for different pitches w/ the default colour mapping (advantage over RB3 preview), you don’t see overdrive around your note tubes/lyrics, lyrics aren’t run together (potentially a problem but only if you’re used to static style), and you can’t actually see slides (because it’s just a blank space).
I often thought vocals would be nice just to make sure your phrase markers + lyric events aren’t gummed up (missed talkies and people using – instead of = are the most common issues that are easy to miss in REAPER) but of the instruments it is the one least needing a preview (I would argue PKs is #2 because you’re authoring to pitch, but I still would love to have it).
Don’t let REAPER be a deterrent for vocals charting. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
September 18, 2014 at 10:01 pm #429438For me at least, a vocals preview would be cool for the sole reason to check for broken talkies, lyrics, etc. and Pro Keys to check for lane shifts. Both would be great to have though if somebody were to have the time and skills to make them.
September 19, 2014 at 12:00 am #429442Yeah, what’s stopping anyone from writing a Reaper plugin to do that? People make plugins, right?
September 19, 2014 at 12:16 am #429446It’s complicated? Takes time? Requires extensive knowledge of MIDI processes and understanding of a language that can be used for the plug in? Take your pick.
