Since Paranoid cannot be exported from RB1, I got a CON with the song for use in RB3. Also, as you may or may not know, the RB3 disc contains upgrades for several (600+) pre-RB3 songs. Incidentally, despite being a non-exportable song, RB3 does contain an upgrade for Paranoid; however, since my CON package has a different id/short name, it doesn’t see the upgrade (which, as a side effect, allows me to change the album/art).
My question is: is there a way to integrate the upgrade into the CON, or trick it into reading the upgrade (hopefully only the mid and not the dta, I want my album art ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />) from the disc? I tried merging the midis in Reaper, but that caused the game to crash on loading the song.

Should just be able to replace the tracks, e.g. delete the original drum track and replace it with the upgraded one. Two of the same track will cause the game to crash on load.
Oh! So the on-disc upgrade completely replaces the drum track! I thought it only applied some fixes…
Okay, gonna try replacing the drum track and see how it goes.
EDIT: Ok, imported both midis in Reaper and I can see the overlapping track. However, the upgrade track looks shorter than the original track. Is this correct or I messed up?
EDIT: Actually, would packaging the on-disc mid as an upgrade work? I think Reaper is going way over my head (and this cold I have isn’t helping me think straight), so maybe I can use RB’s upgrade method to patch in the pro drums track…
You can do it upgrade style.
The ‘length’ of the .mid track doesn’t really matter for RB as it’s checking the length of the audio file and event positions to manage things, so, that is fine.
