I was wondering whether there were any guidelines for the frequency of overdrive sections on Guitar/Bass/Keys/Drums charts. I seen some customs where it is every 15 bars, some guides saying every 10, but I couldn’t find it on the Docs.

Same goes for the unison overdrive sections.

One every 10/15 measures is a good starting point but testing is the only thing that will make you assess if the quantity is right, because note density of the various sections, the BEAT track, etc. make OD consumption very song-specific. Unison OD phrases are, on the other hand, one every 2 OD phrases.

I understand that the beat and such make it really specific, but then I wonder, what makes it good? I have seen customs where you could basically have it up 90% of the song, which I understand is not what you want, but what is?

Have you played the game? If so, you have a grasp of how good you need to do in a song to get gold stars: you get them too soon in the song and it’s too much, you get them too late or don’t get them at all and it’s too little. Same goes for 5 stars, etc. if the song is too hard for you to GS.

Ah, that makes sense. So ultimately, if you 100% a song, you should be getting GS right before the end of the song, or towards 90% I’m guessing. I’ll try and keep that in mind.

        Thanks a lot.

In the RBN Guide/Docs for the info on this… I note it states:

“.. 1 Overdrive Phrase for every 10 measures in 4/4, but it will vary in other time signatures.) The number of Unison Phrases should be about half the number of Overdrive Phrases (so 10 Overdrive Phrases would call for 5 Unison Phrases).”

        That is understood.

“After creating Unison Phrases through the entire song, go back through, adjusting every other phrase to be an Overdrive Phrase.”

The implication here is skipping one phrase.

So isnt this a contradiction …?

It’s badly worded. Unison are half of the total amount of overdrive phrases.
