#2 Samhain – Halloween II

    #476748

    Ouch. Funny, but ouch.

Craaaap! I guess you and Housequake can share the laugh on that one…….I was so close, but yet so far.

So why didn’t you grab that one dude? Sounds like you knew!

Public holiday Monday here, which threw me, so late to the party. I figured the actress’ name must be Chase something (my movie retention actor/actress knowledge is zero), hence my laughter at your The ‘Chase’ is better than the catch, which I have obviously misinterpreted, so that makes it funnier still. No, the good Housequake sits solo on this one. Devil’s Plaything is very clever (cleverly done and guessed) also.

As to #6, I was going the same way. What do 3 cautions equal? Enter at your own risk? Derelict? But we are dealing with devious minds here, so it’s probably none of that and King Gordy is hiding in the shadows again…

Having delved deeper, if indeed we all ARE correct with this weeks guesses, we are left with Pretty Maids……..

Check this out! I recognized Jamie Lee Curtis straight off, but when I tried to connect the dots, I came up with:

      1. She was in the Halloween movies,

(here’s what kills me)…2. The picture was from Halloween 2

      3. Crossreferencing the list of bands that could be connected to Halloween 2,…. I came up with Motorhead – “The Chase is Better Than The Catch” because the song is in the soundtrack. I was convinced that was it!

Housequake was looking for answers to clue #6 when she found that Samhain did a song titled “Halloween II” and stole the ball from me! CRAAAP!!!! LOL!

Crossing my fingers and looking to see if #6 can be solved!

With this information, of course I see it’s Jamie Lee Curtis. Just as well this guessing game ain’t about movies – I would be a very quiet contributor. Should have asked my wife..

Well my friend, it’s getting close to show time and I’d have to say…..I don’t have any other viable answers that could fit into that last clue.

I think you’re correct with the last guess. My ‘smarter and brighter’ half concurs. :smug:

Best of luck on that final one and I hope we all ‘Busted the House’ in guessing these. Saturday’s gonna be cool!

You know what, Mr Freud, I started double guessing my own self. And was heading down the road of ‘over cautious’, but couldn’t tie it to anything. As you would be the only Seahawks (although I do have an inflatable boat that is a Seahawk) fan I know, I ask you this: I thought you Americans couldn’t get a draw/tie in your games? Funny what you start to pay attention to, due to friendly forums… Cubs 1-1.

Depends on the game. They’re rare but they happen!

I agree. We don’t watch baseball and this year we are watching the World Series.

              Hey there Rockers,

This week is the final week of Shocktober. We hope you had as much fun as we did. Special releases like these are tough on us, but so worth it if the peeps dig it. We put in so many hours this month, to try to make it as special as possible. We did a staggering 53 songs for this month. Just over 10 songs per week on average for October, is a pretty good month. We thank all of you that come here on the reg to check out what these 2 crazy fools did now. Well, here is this week’s shocking conclusion to Shocktober 2.

              Release Notes

First up this week is Danzig. When he is not being knocked out for being a tough guy, Glenn Danzig rocks in a very Shocktober way.

Devil’s Plaything is a great track from Danzig’s second album, Lucifuge. It starts out a slow, then kicks in with the rockin’.

Next is Samhain. After leaving the Misfits, Glenn Danzig started a new band. It is a bit like Mistfits and a bit like Danzig would be in the future. Halloween II was originally a Misfits song, that was re-done by Samhain, perfect for Halloween!

The Misfits got a much deserved 3 pack. It features Where Eagles Dare, Attitude and Hybrid Moments. These are some of my favorite Misfits tracks. All three tracks are awesome. I don’t need to tell you why, it is the Misfits, dammit!

Anvil, the Canadian metal powerhouse, come raging into Shocktober with Straight Between the Eyes. Anvil is awesome and this track is no exception to that. Heavy and fun like Anvil always does it.

So, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince had a hit with their ode to a Nightmare on Elm Street. This is a fun song and spooky/silly. Before he hung with Carlton and Uncle Phil, Will Smith had his own nightmare… here is a story…

Pretty Maids has a great New Wave of British Heavy Metal sound. Aggressive and in-your-face. Probably the most challenging track of the regular release.

The most challenging of the whole week definitely goes to the bonus track Wolf by Iced Earth. It is quite difficult on everything. Thank you to AJFOne for his work on some very tough vocals. If you want tough, this is your winner of the week.

We only had 2 “Big Brains” this week, but they had more brains. In fact, enough to get all the clues between the two.

This is super impressive. Thank you so much for all the fun we had doing these.

              Housequake (4)

              zimbabwean (2)

Thank you all for a super-successful Shocktober. We will return soon with more fun and songs!! See ya soon!!!

              Go Cubs Go

Thus ends Shocktober 2: Electric BOO-galoo. Really glad we were able to release so many songs, some of which I’ve wanted since I started charting. Fun fact: I started off charting Halloween and Horror movie soundtrack songs, so some of these have been W.I.P. since I started, back in late 2013. I’m thankful that there’s one time of year where we can release the obscure stuff that we’ve been holding back on, and believe me, we didn’t have a shortage of song ideas this time around, or even close. There’s still plenty more material for a Shocktober 3, if that ends up happening.

Hybrid Moments is one of the aforementioned songs that I’ve been working on since forever, and is a song I’ve wanted to do before I started charting, so it means a lot to me to have gotten it done.

Devil’s Plaything I hadn’t really listened to, prior to this week, but it’s a seriously bad-ass song, it’s really epic and has some good drum and vocal work on it, with tons of fills throughout, but a nice medium tempo so it’s not super challenging.

Straight Between the Eyes is from the soundtrack of Sleepaway Camp 2, which is definitely not my favorite horror movie, or horror/comedy, technically, but the song is pretty great. The song came out before Anvil’s resurgence in popularity after their documentary was released, back in the 80s, and has some really solid guitar and drum work on it. A few mini solos here and there, and two decently lengthy and challenging main solos, as well as a lot of drum fills to go around.

Night Danger is from a Danish band that captured the NWOBHM style very well, with a nice blend between traditional heavy metal, and speed metal. It’s from the soundtrack of the movie Demons, which also had Fast as a Shark, which we released in Shocktober 1 last year. Night Danger is very fast and has some quick strumming parts, as well as a short, but surprisingly challenging solo. Drums are quick and never let up, with a very fun part, as well.

Wolf is from Iced Earth’s classic horror movie-themed album, Horror Show. Wolf is the opening track, and based off of The Wolf Man. It’s also probably the most technical track in terms of drum work, and seriously, it’s one of the heaviest songs that I’ve ever heard. The riffs are extremely tight, and the drum work is crazy, for sure, with the main ride pattern and constant bass hits. 2x bass in particular is just absurd.

We really hope that you guys enjoyed this year’s Shocktober, I think it turned out great, if I must say so, myself. Hopefully we can still shock you guys in the remaining weeks of 2016, I think our return to regular music will be pretty strong.

                #476958

You guys are amazing – period.
