This is probably the most obscure one of all. I will say the artist actually was in a major motion picture and this song was produced by the star of that film.

Geez, she actually solved it last night. Housequake kept hitting on my shoulder and insisting she was convinced she could see a fat man’s shadow on the right side of the pic. “That’s a clue for King Gordy, that’s a clue I’m telling you, I know it”……I just kept laughing, said she was crazy and told her “no way”. Well I guess it’s WAY, based on the last additional nudge from Nunchuck. Great job everybody! I think we solved ’em all again! Hey there Rockers,

 

The weekend has finally returned to the Funhouse!! We are back with another week of spooky good times. You may wonder… Who the Hell are these bands? Some people will know some of them, but I’m guessing not many will know them all. What this week does feature is a bunch of really cool songs by bands most aren’t familiar with. You will have to trust us that this stuff is awesome. Once you play them or listen to them, all the doubt will slip away. There are heavy songs, a feel good pop number, some horror themed rock and a song from my favorite rap album ever, bar none. I will tell you all about that later.

 

For now let’s just get to the songs. Well, one thing first, Candlemass – Bewitched which we teased before October began and did a hint for this week, was released by another author just hours ago. No blame need be assigned, it is the nature of the beast. However, we aren’t going to cheat you all out of the Funhouse Customs version that Sy and I did. As one of our peeps, you know our customs tend to feel a bit different than some other authors’ stuff. So, we will post it here in this thread, but not in the Database to avoid clutter and duplicates. Posting this track is a reward for reading our thread.

 

We thank you for being our peeps. We think you all rock, and we truly appreciate your loyalty to this thread. In a day where people can just get the songs quick in the Database, rather than actually reading the author’s thoughts and impressions, we are glad you peeps come here every week and leave us thanks and encouragement. We attempt to bring you a reason to come here. We try very hard to set an example for how much fun a thread can be. You all show up every week and play along and solve the clues we give you. You showed up in big numbers to vote for RockFights (which will return soon, we hope).

Release Notes

 

Well let’s start out with Goon Moon. Goon Moon is a two man project featuring Jeordie White (also known as Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn Manson). Apple Pie has a strange sound. It is like a very creepy children’s song only different in ways I can’t explain. This is a song we have been saving for Shocktober. Enjoy it and let that freak flag fly high!!

 

Ok, now it is time for King Gordy. I am a huge fan of King Gordy and his album the Entity is, without doubt my favorite rap album ever!! When Darkness Falls is different than most rap you will ever hear. It is one of the songs I will always be most glad I got to help add to RB. This is something I have wanted forever. It thrills me to know we can now play King Gordy whenever we want. Tremendous, just fucking tremendous!!

 

One of the first songs Sy and I did together was Green Jelly – Three Little Pigs. I always thought we would revisit that album to do Cereal Killer. As part of a nutritious Shocktober, we bring it to you today. Good stuff!

 

45 Grave Partytime and Riboflavin are both fun spooky type rock stuff. Partytime is a rockin’ track heard in many movies and other pop culture appearances. Riboflavin is a fun, organ-driven ode to vampires.

 

Bewitched is a super-catchy doom metal classic. It has been stuck in my head for a month or so. I actually has me Bewitched!!!

If you have the chance to watch the music video for the song, at 5:45 of the song the cheesiest-video-creepy-stomp-thing happens for a while. I cracked up hard. The cheese was delightful, made more fun by the band being semi-serious. Good times friends, good times.

 

Fall Break is a catchy, good times pop song. It was in the film the Mutilator, which was one of my favorite old slasher films from my younger days. The song is an ode to youth getting away from studies to party.

 

I will save the others for Sy as I ‘m sure he knows more about them than I do.

 

 

We had 4 “Big Brains” this week and they solved all the clues. Great work my friends, you guys really do great with the picture clues. I’m impressed, especially since these aren’t very well known tracks and artists.

Really glad we got Partytime done, that was one we had planned for last year, but the idea of pitched vocals on everything (well, most everything) and bonus songs, and I guess time management, I digress, was pretty foreign to us. So I think it’s best that we got it done now, rather than for last year.

 

Besides that, Fall Break is a great, catchy song, like Nunchuck said, and it has no business being the theme of the song it’s from, but hey, the film’s music direction wrote the song, so it was totally intentional that it’d be so upbeat and contrast with the rest of the movie. Surprisingly challenging on every instrument, vocals are pretty fun.

 

If you’ve seen Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, you remember this song. I grew up with it, since they aired it about a million times on Cartoon Network in the early 2000s, along with the other animated Scooby-Doo movies. I think it’s not just nostalgia, the song actually holds up pretty well, it doesn’t feel like a product of the 90s to me, so that’s good enough. It’s not super challenging, about mid-tier, but I guess that’s hard compared to its length.

 

Urotsukidoji is another one I’m not explaining the context for, it’s for a horror piece of media, and we’ll leave it at that. I thought that the band just used the song title because it sounded cool, which translates to “lurking demon”, by the way, (unless Youtube comments fail me again) but that can’t possibly be the case, since they used audio clips from said media in the song. After that, I don’t know what to think, just take the song for what it is, an awesome bass solo, a bit of an instrumental break, and a pretty good guitar solo. It’s very challenging, and is a fantastic thrash-trumental, easiest on guitar, hardest on drums, probably. I picked it as a bonus since I was disappointed there wasn’t a top tier bass song for Shocktober 2.
