Release Notes
Holy buzzbomb you guys! That was a workout just getting all the images in. I’m going to give you a few tidbits about some of these songs. I will save some for Sy to fill you in on, but I have some stuff to say about many of these.
Let me start off with my picks this week, then I will go to bonus songs.
To start it off, we have another Supergroup featuring Mike Patton. Fantomas features Mike Patton of Faith No More, Buzz Osbourne of the Melvins, Trevor Dunn From Mr. Bungle and Dave Lombardo of Slayer. The band’s second studio album was comprised of their interpretations of film songs. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer was a very gritty film that was a loose biopic of Henry Lee Lucas. I have wanted to bring Fantomas to RB for a very long time, so today, we all win.
Next up in this onlslaught is The Skatenigs. I love the Skatenigs. They are an industrial metal outfit out of Texas. The band’s leader Phil “Phildo” Owen was also in the Revolting Cocks. Horny for Evil is a great track. If I hadn’t had a part in this release and was in your shoes reading this I would stand up and cheer. This is so awesome!!
ICP is the perfect Shocktober band. Night of the Chainsaw shows exactly why. It is angry, funny and super catchy. You don’t need to be a Juggalo to enjoy this wicked masterpiece. This week’s release, well actually the next few releases, has some stuff I have wanted in RB a lot. I am a huge Mike Patton fan, so adding Fantomas is something I have wanted since we started. The Skatenigs is something I can’t picture anyone else having in their sights, although they are so great. The bonus tracks were no exception to this ‘things I truly love’ theme.
Being a Mike Patton fan, Faith No More – Digging the Grave is a great addition. I hope you will see more FNM soon, but until then, this should help with our FNM addiction.
I am also a huge Tarantino fan. I loved Death Proof and the accompanying soundtrack. April March – Chick Habit is fun and very theme appropriate. Once again, there should be more from this incredible soundtrack soon.
Now, when it comes to the Twin Peaks Theme… This is like my Holy Grail of customs. I mentioned it to Sy a long time ago, and I woke up to find this was sent to me overnight. Sy, you are the shit!!! Thank you so much!!
It was a great week to do it, as The Secret Lives of Twin Peaks novel comes out this week. It will catch me up on the last 25 years in Twin Peaks. That will hold me over until the new season of Twin Peaks premieres on Showtime in 2017.
So everybody, enjoy this classic soundscape and Sy thank you again, you sly fox!!!
If you author pro keys and would like to make this song totally complete, please contact me!
Damn! That was a novel. I will save the others for Sy to inform you about. But let me say, these are some of the hardest songs I have ever worked on. There are some real gems in these if you like heavy music.
This week we has a full rack on the hints again (with a small nudge because they were hard this week). You peeps really kicked ass with the clues. We so appreciate all the thought you peeps put into these. You rock
Here are this week’s “Big Brains”.

Thank you all for playing. Monday will bring more hints, so get your brains in shape.
Have a great weekend everyone! We will see ya soon!
Remember to Rock Out… Life is Short
October 15, 2016 at 6:36 pm #476353For my picks, The Villa is one of the hardest guitar customs I’ve ever touched, I think it’s either equal or more challenging than TTFAF. Like I said in the last hint, it was featured on the Fretboard Frenzy compilation by Shrapnel, which in the 80s, that’s all you need to know that it’s insane on guitar, being on the same album as Racer X and Cacophony. Drums, like most Dr. Mastermind songs are also challenging, as well. Think of it as the guitar answer to I Don’t Wanna Die, except this one has 4 guitar solos (5 if you count the neo-classical bridge).
Night of the Blade is a collaboration with 2dhumanity over on the FoF.net forums, who did guitar. The song is really catchy in the choruses, and is in general one of the catchier NWOBHM songs, even though there’s quite a few of them. (I’m looking at Angel Witch – Angel Witch, which 2dhumanity also charted for PSGP3) Night of the Blade isn’t super challenging, it’s more fun than anything, it has two solos which vary in speed, and a good bass part, too.
Kill the Target is a song I charted because of a Korean comedy show that I watch pretty extensively that uses the song every time there’s a “creepy” moment. The song is pretty creepy with the music box-esque parts, and it adds more layers of instruments until the end of the song where it drops off.
As for bonuses, Stone – Empty Corner was one of the biggest pains in the ass on both of our ends, because it has a ton of time signature changes. It’s a great thrash song from Finland, which is more famous for Children of Bodom, who came a bit later. The song really has a unique sound, compared to other thrash songs that were coming out at the time, especially on the guitar. There’s three guitar solos, one in the intro, one in the middle, and one in the outro, all of which are pretty challenging. A lot of people from experience aren’t fans of the vocals, but I think they fit pretty well with the song, personally.
Gama Bomb – We Respect You is a name-drop to a ton of classic and contemporary filmmakers and actors, many who crossed over into the horror genre, which is why I picked the song. It’s a fun, but still a bit aggressive song, with some relentless strumming riffs and fast drumming beats. It’s very challenging on those two instruments, but still fun for a listen. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to link this, but it’s legit, you can get the entire Tales from the Grave in Space album for free on Earache’s site at this link.
Metal Church – Psycho is a super fast thrash/speed metal song with some tricky drum work. Compared to the rest of the Metal Church songs we’ve done, or plan on doing, this one is more drum-focused, and has two short drum solos instead of any guitar solos. Guitar actually isn’t super challenging on this one, as a result, but drums are pretty hard.
Burzum – War is the last bonus song I picked, and is definitely the most “out there” song this week. We don’t usually pick black metal or anything this deep in the extreme metal genre in general, but it has some great guitar work and a great, Shocktober-esque backstory behind it. Most people know about it by this point, but for those who don’t, Burzum’s sole member at this point was Varg Vikernes, who murdered fellow black metal musician Euronymous, of Mayhem. Prior to that, however, Euronymous guest performed the guitar solo on War.
October 15, 2016 at 6:38 pm #476355You guys are outstanding. Fact. Thank you once again for all your hard work.
And thanks for the extra clues, we were done without ’em!
October 15, 2016 at 9:35 pm #476367Nice choice of songs. Thank you. I did not know if anyone knew who Tokyo Blade was. Nice.
October 15, 2016 at 10:48 pm #476370!wow ,boB ,woW
What a splendid pack.
How awesome to get the Twin Peaks theme! I watched the entire series for the first time a few years ago. Never have I been more disappointed in a television show -which I thought was great with lots of promise-, but this is the cherry on top of a fantastic release for me.
Thanks guys!
October 15, 2016 at 11:58 pm #476374Tokyo Blade and Metal Church in the same week. Just awesome stuff from you guys every week.
