Release Notes
If you remember back around our 1st Anniversary, I said we would get some more genres we hadn’t touched on too much. This week, my picks added some much needed Classic Hip-Hop, Modern Reggae/Pop fusion and one of the best Funk/Soul of all-time. Sy added a fun Pop song, a Rap/Metal fusion and a hard-to-choose genre band that has definite Prog Metal qualities.
Let’s just start with Tone Loc – Funky Cold Medina, most everyone has heard this gem. It is hard to believe no one has already done this song. It will be a huge hit at your next RB party. While it’s not a tough song, it is super fun. We hope you all dig it.
Next up is Bruno Mars – Liquor Store Blues (ft. Damian Marley). This is my favorite Bruno Mars song. I love the awesome reggae flavor that Damian Marley (youngest son of the Reggae Legend Bob Marley) adds to Bruno’s immense talent. This is just an excellent song. Just download it, you won’t be sorry!
Ok, if you know me in real life you know of my love for Curtis Mayfield and the Superfly soundtrack. My father got the soundtrack album (yes, vinyl) in 1972 when it was new. My father and I listened to it a ton through those early years. I never stopped loving it, I still have that vinyl, it is one of my most prized possessions, as well as CD and DVD (Film is also awesome!!!). I know, not too many 2 and 3 year olds have such great musical taste, but I really did. It is still in my top 5 albums of all-time list. This funk classic has been used as a sample countless times and shows up often in pop culture. I’m super pleased to bring you all Freddie’s Dead!!! I hope you love it as much as I do!!!
Jessica Simpson – With You is next. I didn’t think I knew any Jessica Simpson songs, I heard this one and I went D’oh, I sure do. It is a fun to play and sing pop song. This one was surprising to me how much fun it really was to play. Now, we have both Simpson sisters at the Funhouse. With You will add another female vocal to the game, which is always good.
Bring the Noise is just plain awesome!! I know there was a Public Enemy/ Zakk Wylde – Bring the Noise, which only made us want the real deal. Here it is finally, it will rock  Anthrax is one of our favorite bands here at the Funhouse. This is a great chance to enjoy Rap/Metal at it’s best.
Wrathchild America is one of Sy’s favorite bands with good reason. They are fun, energetic and have a ton of talent. They aren’t too well known, but those you do know of them absolutely dig them. Surrounded By Idiots is a tough song, Devil heads everywhere. If you are looking for a tough challenge, we highly suggest this one for you this week.
We had 5 “Big Brains” this week and between them they got everyone. You peeps are awesome. Thank you for all the fun!!

September 3, 2016 at 3:12 pm #474410I think that Surrounded by Idiots is the first time I’ve charted vocals on anything and put them as top tier, in the same way that Sleepwalker and Mechanix were hard on vocals. That song is great, one of Wrathchild America’s most fun songs, even if it’s one of their clearly socially-critical songs.
Bring the Noise is one we’ve planned on for a while, at least I planned on doing it before I started charting. The harmonies on it mostly follow the rule of Harm1: Chuck D/Charlie, Harm2: Scott, and Harm3: Flavor Flav and everyone else. There’s not many pitched vocals, but I did what I could, for the most part. Drums also have the sampled drum parts, and we didn’t cut out much of the outro, either. Keys are the turntable part, so even you Terminator Xs get to play. Awesome song, I’m really glad that we did it.
With You is probably the black sheep this week, but it’s an amazing song, either way. Vocals are really fun on, but guitar has an interesting part, too, and is pretty challenging in its own right.
Very fun this week, fairly on the challenging side, especially Freddie’s Dead, which I didn’t think would be so hard, but those drums are awesome, vocals also ended up being trickier than I thought. Pretty cool stuff this week, I’d check it out, even if you don’t think you’ve heard of any of the songs.

Thanks especially for Curtis Mayfield’s “Freddie’s Dead”…….good gawd! a personal favorite of mine as well.
Right up there with the other giant 70’s Blaxploitation Film tunes “Shaft” and “Superfly”. Y’all just blow me outta the water!
Oh, and thanks for making this a customs ‘Jukebox’ as opposed to an IPod. I’m a Tech Ignoramus and I roll ol’ skool…

I made a drums only version of Wild Thing a long time ago. Was considering making it full band but I believe my tempo map is off in spots.
