Hello, I was a lover of rock band for many many years (mainly drums). But I live in a second story apartment, so I can’t really play like I used to.
So my noob question (which I’m embarassed to ask) is, How can I load this on my laptop? Would it have to be through dolphin or some other sort of emulator?
I have rb4 for the PS4 and the adapter for e-drums, so that would be the optimal solution. (You know, extension cord to the yard, with a laptop on a table and be drumming away like a dummy).
Ty very much in advance
May 17, 2020 at 6:33 pm #511532If you only want to play RB4, the only solution is to bring a monitor outside with your PS4.
It you want to play RB3, you can do the same with your PS3, or you could either buy a Wii MIDI adapter, or mod your PS3 adapter to act like a Wii one (you could also add a switch to choose either PS3 or Wii) and play on Dolphin, since a Wii MIDI adapter is the only solution to fully enjoy Pro Drums on Dolphin. Using a non-modded PS3 MIDI adapter, the only choices you’d have is the first option, or Phase Shift on your laptop, which is another game that C3 CON Tools can convert RB3 files to. It’s not RB3, but it’s close I guess. Note that running Dolphin requires a decent computer, so I would make sure you can run at least native Wii resolution at solid 60fps while playing a song before making decisions on modding or buying MIDI adapters.
If you don’t have a monitor but would rather play RB4 (or RB3 on your PS3), another solution would be a capture card for your laptop so that you can connect a console to it like a monitor, and use it as a monitor, but the catch here is that you can probably find monitors cheaper than decent capture cards.

with silencer pads and a carpet underneath you wouldnt be making any noise

If only that was true.
I lived on the second floor of a relatively old building and there’s virtually no way to reduce the sound of the bass pedal. The only way would be to use a simple button instead, but that’s no fun.
May 20, 2020 at 2:10 pm #511585I once built a small drum riser that rested on a layer of tennis balls in the middle, two layers of 1/4 inch plywood, and two 2″ layers of foam. I wish I kept a picture of it.
It looked like this in the middle
Not hard to figure out how to build it. First version I did had very thin foam – get as thick as you can at least for the bottom. Dollar store for the tennis balls.
It worked great, not 100% soundproof (they could still hear it a little bit). Just make sure you build it big enough to hold your chair and the entire kit so it can absorb the hits.

also what does the laptop solve? you said extension cord to the yard but yet you are on the second floor?
you rather play on your balcony in front of people than put some mats down?
i’d rather use a gh pedal with a piezo sensor than play outside. you can still do heel/toe technique…
