Hi everyone,
My friend and I (you can call us APAK) are trying to get into charting for customs. There is a lot of information online; however, a lot of it is becoming outdated and difficult to follow. Some key issues that we ran into while charting:
– Charting talkies (vocals with no pitch)
– Importing text for vocals/lining it up automatically
– Exporting the chart into RB3 using C3 Magma / Con Tools
Is there a place where I can reach someone more directly (e.g. a Discord community with experienced charters)? We want to talk with someone directly and try to get our first chart published ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
*If anyone wants to tinker with our Reaper project, here is a link.*
Reaper related questions include:
– Is there a specific version of Reaper that we need to use?
– Same for Con Tools, etc.
– What is your go-to template for starting a chart from scratch?
Thanks,
APAK

– Importing text for vocals/lining it up automaticallyI’m hoping to document this one better soon since there’s no real step by step.
In REAPER:
1. Open the actions menu (on toolbar at top of window, select Actions > Show action list).
2. On the top right of the action list window there’s a drop-down called “section”. From this, select “Midi Event List Editor”.
3. Search “Import lyrics for selected notes from file”.
4. Create a shortcut to the action so you don’t have to do this process every time!

I assume you’ve already looked at this but it’s a good starting point and a lot of Magma is pretty self-explanatory and also has some tips in the program itself. If you have any specific questions we’ll be happy to address!

There is! I’ll PM you shortly.

The answers to these are here, please make sure you read everything thoroughly: http://customscreators.com/index.php?/topic/8997-list-of-all-authoring-stuff-reaper-magma-tutorials-etc/
Welcome to C3! We look forward to seeing your work!

Be sure to look at all the documentation and tutorials available here in the forums, specifically in the Authoring Tools, Support & Advice category. How to do talkies, how to do lyrics quickly and (relatively) painlessly, and how to get your custom into the game are all covered.

There is a C3 Customs Discord, and hopefully one of the mods there can get you an invite.
– Is there a specific version of Reaper that we need to use?
Generally 4.22 is considered the safest version. That’s what Harmonix had when they created all the RBN tools that lead to the tools used by the customs community, and people have identified quirks in later versions that make creating MIDIs for the game a little tricky.
– Same for Con Tools, etc.
Always the latest.
– What is your go-to template for starting a chart from scratch?
The standard C3 template is available here, though there are some known issues that people have fixed in their own templates, some of which you can find by searching the forums.
