Backstory: I used to play GH back in the day, (Xbox 360) never really got into RB though. Had kids and didn’t play much. Then I noticed used music games were cheap at Game Stop several years back. I picked up every game I could find though I only had 2 GH guitars.

A few months ago my nephew came home from his friends house and said they played RB4 and it was a blast with drums and stuff. So, I ordered RB4, found a an RB3 drum kit and two RB guitars for around $50. got a wireless legacy adapter. We started to play as a family and had such a blast. Then I pulled my 360 out of storage and found out I had the proper RB3 disc. So of course you all are amazing to me. The customs are the best and the game is SOOOO much better and way funner for my family now. But I kept going deeper. I found a drum set with the pro cymbals for $30. Got the keytar on eBay for $10. and some wireless mics around the same. I kept looking at Craigslist though. Then I scored an Ion Kit….. A week later I upgraded to a Nitro Mesh kit. and just today, I scored a Beatles set. (mic, stand, drums, Rickenbacker, Hoffner, 2 games and sticks for $20. Unreal. I’m thoroughly stoked! They were a little dirty and some keys were sticking but I cleaned them up and they work 100% now. I’m really excited because those Beatles guitars for 360 are going for stupid money on eBay.

So now, I’m sitting on 3 RB drum sets, an Ion set, Nitro Mesh eKit, 3 mics, a keytar, 5 guitars. Shit I even got the DJ Hero stuff for $15 on ebay (not my cup of tea though). I think I have a problem. I hope I’m in good company. Now if only I can find a Gretsch.

You’re in the right spot. I feel like you did everything I did, but at light speed. Mine spanned the course of the games, but you, you went for it. =-) I had dedicated everything on my PS3, then found this site and had to blow off the dust on my XBOX and find a copy of the EA game. So it was like I started all over again (since I had ZERO instruments for XBOX). I haven’t scored TBRB set, but I just have run out of room for anything more. Piles and piles of guitars (most nonworking – used buys…booo), keytars, drums still in boxes…so ya, you’re in good company.

I search Craigslist and Facebook Market place several times a day. last week on Facebook Marketplace this guy posted it 15 minutes before I saw it and told him I’d take it. Finally picked it up yesterday. I can’t tell you how excited I have been this past week. There is a Gretsch for sale too, but its like 2 hours from me. I’m contemplating making an offer and taking a weekend drive up north with the wife for it. Just not sure it its Xbox or not.

How do you break them? Can the RB drum pads not be re-soldered like the Ion kit? Have you looked for an Ion kit?

Well when you snap the red & green pads off 😂😂😂😂 its virtually unfixable.

You are in wonderful company….. I also have a bit of an obsession/addiction/problem when it comes to RB guitars… But mine is specifically targeted at this bad boy right here: https://puu.sh/BlDTY/02f899b274.pngThe RB (technically RB2) Wooden Stratocaster Replica….I have one in the Sunburst (that was the first one I got) and I have that red one, I think the technical color is “Candy Apple” if I remember right. I wanted the red one…but they’re much harder to find. Only happened upon this red one by luck. But since getting the red one, I haven’t seen either of them anywhere….Craigslist, Ebay, Amazon, etc. Amazon claims they have used ones for under $200, but it’s a scam. You get the plastic Sunburst guitar.

Here’s the rundown on my obsession:

I got the Sunburst on Craigslist….I searched every city within every state in the US, checking each state closest to my location (Michigan) and radiated out from there. The ONLY one on all of craigslist in the US and Canada…was this one I got….in NJ, supposedly in brand new condition, for $75. They obviously didn’t know the true value of it…or maybe didn’t care. For me, roughly an 8-9 hour drive. What did I do? Contacted the seller, asked if they could hold it til I could make it there, and at the first possible chance…hopped in my car and drove to NJ to get it. One of the best road trips I’ve ever taken. Fast forward a bit… My Sunburst broke sort of…and in my attempt to fix it… I broke it further. It’s not beyond repair… but it is beyond my ability to repair as of right now. So, I sucked it up and played with my Hofner Bass….and then eventually, after almost a year of searching… I found this red one on Ebay. I’d searched Amazon, craigslist, every website possible to try and find another guitar. Searched FB’s marketplace shit, and ended up realizing that this red one…for almost $200….was going to be my only option. So….Dropped the $200 on it….and here I am, happy with my real-fake guitar.

If you can, if you ever find one… I urge you to grab as fast as possible, a wooden strat replica for RB. When they came out for RB…they were for the Xbox 360 only, and they sold for $400. If you could find a new one, I have a feeling they’d go for even more than that now. But good luck finding one. Lol. It’s got the best playability of any RB or GH guitar…except the strum bar. They clearly compensated too much for the mushy strum bars on the other RB guitars…this one is very stiff. So I changed both of mine out and put in the Bytes strum bar… I forget the website name, but if you want it, just Google “Replacement RB strum bar” or some such thing, and you’ll find it.

Anywho…that’s my obsession. I also enjoy tinkering with the guitars too, modifying them how/where I can to my liking.

Well when you snap the red & green pads off

Good thing I thought ahead and propped them with some PVC. All owners of a standard Rock Band kit are highly advised to install support struts underneath your red and green pads before the worst happens.

That is crazy and good to know. Now I’m on the lookout.

I love the GH5 guitar so i threw $200 at a used (like-new which ended up being maybe “good condition”) a few years ago.

It still works fine though minus the whammy bar is now only useable if you use a rubber band. Well worth it though anyway though as I cannot stand the RB guitars…
