How’s this thing going? I’m testing my 3 songs and they play wonderfully in game, very excited about those.

I’m working on my custom of Don’t You Forget About Me right now, but I haven’t got much done other than the drums so far. Once it’s done, I’ll move onto 500 Miles.

If there’s time, I’d love to fit in Baker Street too, but we’ll see how things happen.

It seems I have misplaced by 500 miles chart. If you want I’ll re do drums because it won’t take that long, and if you want, I can take a crack at vocals and harmonies.

That would be good, thanks. Do what you can and once I’ve finished DYFAM I’ll lend a hand with the rest.

Not sure if it’s me or Jim Kerr but I’m having real difficulty charting Don’t You Forget About Me’s vocals – he uses a lot of slides and don’t really hit every single note right on so I’m never sure whether to chart a G or F# (for example). Guitar is also being a pain in the ass, it’s all muted scratches in the background >_< Hopefully should have a playtestable version (Expert only) done tomorrow.

Drummerockband, any news on 500 Miles? Wanted to ask for a while now but figured I’d wait until the Weird Al pack was done to ask.

I found an acapella of it but unfortunelty it’s only lead vocals and not the harmony, so we probably can’t do a karaoke version . Now that Weird Al is done I have more time to work on whatever, and I kind of worked on it for a bit yesterday. But now I can start working on it. I’ll get the expert drums and vocals done soon and then I’ll send them your way.

Okay, here’s the Reaper project for Don’t You Forget About Me. Expert charts only for now:

(link removed – see thread in the Playtesting forum)

I was going to post a full playtesting thread but Magma is throwing up hundreds of errors because Reaper has done that annoying-as-fuck thing where it glitches the chart so that every note is one hundredth-of-a-second off-beat and so Magma throws up those “notes overlapping/too close” errors on every single note. Its done this to the drums, keys and pro keys charts so I’m going to have to rewrite those from scratch before I can playtest it >_<

Anyway, here are my notes on the charts for those who like to test through Reaper:

Guitar – This was by far the hardest to chart. The guitar is buried so deep in the mix that I was guessing most of the time. I charted what I could from a combination of the audio itself, MIDIs, covers on Youtube and the version used in The Breakfast Club (which uses a slightly different mix).

Vocals – So many slides, and so many ambiguous notes. Not really sure what to do with the words sung like the “don’t/won’t” in the first line of the chorus & verse, so they’re slides for now. Help please.

Bass – Reasonably happy with this. Again, like guitar, it’s buried in the mix, but all the MIDIs/tabs are pretty unanimous on what’s being played and it matches up with what I could hear.

Drums – Happy with everything except the hi-hat. In places I have no idea if it’s being hit in a four-beat with one hand or if it’s doing a disco beat. Would appreciate some help with this one.

Keys – This is the one instrument where I’m satisfied with the chart. The keys are by far the most prominent instrument in the song so it wasn’t too hard. The only difficult bit was the breakdown before the ‘la la la’ section – there’s some piano improv going on but I can’t figure it out so I’ve just charted the synth for now.

        …I hate Reaper.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but have you quantized those notes to grid?

        #408264

I have. It’s happened before, and is apparently a known issue – it seems to happen to any notes that are copied and pasted.

Well it usually helps fixing it for me by Quantizing it with the “Position and note end” option selected for the type of Quantizing. That way it will adjust the note length and position to fit inside your selected grid

Ah, I hadn’t done that, I’d done something else which didn’t work. Now it works perfectly. Thanks! You just saved me a couple hours

You can generally fix that by using REAPER’s quantize function. Select all of the notes and hit Q. Pick the smallest grid unit that the song uses and tell it to move “note start” (and only note start) to the nearest grid.

Thanks for your help guys. Didn’t even know that the Quantize feature was a thing.

Right, finally, after several weeks, Don’t You Forget About Me is now in playtesting. Let me know what you think.

Edit: just realised that November 30th is a Saturday, not a Friday. Changing the date to November 29th.

Hey, DVDSmith? Do you wanna make Other Side of the World a colab too? I might drop that out of this pack and chart it as a single for future release, and just work on “Another Place to Fall” for now, because I’m having a few issues with the charts. (Mostly pro keys.)
