The drum tutorial video was great. I got the basics down. Now I think I’m working on something that requires more than just the basics. Can I get some more advice for this custom? I’ve got the drums fully charted to the best of my ability, but pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Okay thanks. It’s most likely wrong right now. I need to know what to do to make it right.

My apolagies. I download the files and then got incredibly busy last night and forgot to check back in. I’ll give them a look over and get back to you in a bit.

From what I can see early on (sorry, been busy as work)….. are you charting out x2 bass or just single pedal?

You are missing a lot of double notes so just curious.

If it actually is x2, I want to do it right. I wasn’t too certain while I was charting it and since I could barely hear out some of those double kicks, I didn’t want to overchart.

Something I do when having bass issues is to take the file into an external music player and mess with the EQ a bit. Up the lower tones and lessen the upper ones. This will muddy the sound but should up the bass “boom” so you can hear pedal hits a lot better. Also, if you ever think your charting wrong, it cant hurt to research some videos on youtube of covers.

You need to reference a lot* though with this approach, and a lot of people have their own interpretation of the song. Try and avoid live versions of songs too, as a lot of artists play things differently live and mix it up.

Also, use REAPER’s Rate option as well to slow down parts of the song you need to get a better read on. It can be helpful to see if the drums rolls are actually 16ths, or tripplets, ect. It can also help with double bass and cymbal work in some complicated areas.

I haven’t used Rate too much because it’s been a hassle to use. The only way I’m seeing to reliably use that in areas is to copy the audio, split it at the spot in question, then slow it down.

I’ve been using the Center Channel effect to split between more audible kicks to cymbals. And scrubbing usually brings out the more obvious kicks, which is how most of the ones I have there got there in the first place.

Can you note how to correct the first 3 or so measures? That way I have a sample of quality to match.

I sent you a PM with the link (in case you wanted to keep the name a secret).

I did the first 10 or so measures.

The problem is, like was likely made by a sound team for the game, which also means the drums were probably computer generated. They are going to play a bit weird on a RB kit. I charted out the correct double bass that I heard, but that will likely be difficult for someone playing these kits. Just keep that in mind.

Okay, yes. I anticipated the awkwardness, so hopefully the required 1x pedal will be more sensible.
