Are you using Magma C3?
October 9, 2014 at 12:08 am #430715C3 Roks Edition v2
File version 2.2.0.0
October 9, 2014 at 12:09 am #430716Although it has nothing to do with your current error, i would suggest using the latest version. Always.
October 9, 2014 at 7:45 am #430734Sure. But, I am not quite sure what has happened here – if you check the start of this thread I was using 3.1 because by your own admission the backing file was missing from the RAR…. you recommended using a copy from version 2.2
So, it would appear – and I have no idea how I have done this.. I have replaced the whole file set with 2.2 …(bizarre)
>> Although it has nothing to do with your current error
But you have no ideas what this error could mean… ? Respectfully, if you ‘legends’ have no idea then I haven’t a hope !
October 9, 2014 at 12:59 pm #430740ERROR: Metadata Compiler: [D] sub_genre: ‘subgenre_alternative’ is not a valid value.I’ve gotten this for some reason when I don’t change the genre in Magma. Change the genre (then even change it back if you want) and it should go away.
October 9, 2014 at 1:35 pm #430742Thanks Colonel, will give this a go this evening… hoping that will sort it and I will have my rb3con file to test….fingers crossed.
October 9, 2014 at 3:33 pm #430753Respectfully, if you ‘legends’ have no idea then I haven’t a hope !I’m sure us “legends” could figure it out. But I don’t help with authoring issues. To me a lot of what has been posted in this thread seems like reading the authoring documentation and watching the tutorial videos would have solved. It’s not a good policy to throw a MIDI at Magma, let it give you errors, try to fix, and repeat. You should aim to have a properly authored MIDI before compiling. Again, you need to go back and read the authoring docs and watch the authoring tutorial videos.
If the problem is indeed a problem with my programs, then I can help. And at that point, post it in the program’s thread. As I said before, no need for a new thread for every problem or failed compilation.

That sounds like a bug with Magma. Why has nobody mentioned this before? I’ll take a look this weekend, got enough things lined up for an update to Magma it looks like ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

Because it’s probably an issue with fresh projects. I for one always start from another project.

Honestly, it was such a simple, quick fix I didn’t bother posting about it. I didn’t bother searching for a solution to see if it was already addressed because I could fix it in 3 seconds. And if I posted something about it and it had already been discussed elsewhere… I didn’t want to be “that guy”.

Sure is. As an aside, why do you always start from another project? What is to be gained by doing so?

I very rarely do one song per artist/album, so all shared metadata is recycled.

I’ve gotten that too, but since I’ve never done (what I consider) a rock/alternative song I just used it as a reminder for me to change the sub-genre. Never even thought of it as a bug.
October 9, 2014 at 5:33 pm #430777Trjoan Nemo , I disagree about all being covered in videos and tutorials. Not all my points have been covered – if they have perhaps point me in the specifc areas where they have been covered in the documentation.
Magma bugs aside..(was worth posting this thread after all , eh?)….
The next issue I now have…. Magma reports success and says here is your RB3Con file. Great.. I transfer (via the usual means ) onto stick , but when Rockband loads – the song is nowhere to be seen…. even if I change the song list to Order by Aquired…. my custom is not there.
The RB3Con file is on the stick with many other RB3 files that I have downloaded from the C3 database and these DO appear.
So, I am assuming there is something in my construction that is still not right.. but wouldnt the compiler have found this and reported accordingly…? Before I go any further .. all I want to do is see how my Drums authoring plays out on screen… is it just me..>?

I have decided to relocate this in the correect Custom Song troubleshooting category to keep the censor happy.
TrojanNemo- I also get a crash when starting a new project in Magma and I press the browse button for the RB3Con file.. the filepath is initially empty, and an exception fault is thrown (at least on my PC it does).
Also, the error dialog that displays states : C3 Roks Edition v2 (despite the header caption bar for main window confirming the software is Edition v3!)

I have had this happen many times with a new song I have made or converted, There is nothing wrong with the way it was compiled. When it does happen take the song that doesn’t show up & create a pack with 2 or more songs & then it will show up every time.

And if I posted something about it and it had already been discussed elsewhere… I didn’t want to be “that guy”.I’d much rather be told about it than have one or a bunch of “minor” bugs making the tool less than optimal. This has now been fixed and will be in the next release.

You’d need to be more specific if you continue to have this problem. If so, POST IN THE MAGMA THREAD.
Also, the error dialog that displays states : C3 Roks Edition v2 (despite the header caption bar for main window confirming the software is Edition v3!)Stupid oversight on my part. Fixed in next release.
