I’ve been running through building a custom song for the first time. It’s really exciting, but also a very overwhelming. After screwing around with tempo mapping my song, I figured out how to run it in 3/3 time signature. That helped everything massively. I finished up my guitar and felt really proud of it, but I wanted to play it on my 360 for the full effect. So I started compiling it in Magma and it kept throwing out a bunch of errors at me. I realized that I exported empty pro keys, and that I needed to move the end event to (duh) the end. I’ve fixed all of those. As an added bonus, I recharted the BEAT track because it was looking weird, and I thought that might have an effect on gameplay. All of those errors are gone, but I have some that I can’t figure out how to fix.
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (PART GUITAR): Chord gems do not start simultaneously at [123]
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (BEAT): BEAT track stops at [146] before end event at [146]
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (PART GUITAR): MIDI events at [147] after the end event at [146]
There is a chord at 124.1.000 that I have deleted and replaced with snap on to make sure, but I’m still getting this chord error at a place that doesn’t exist on my tempo map. It only goes as high as X:3:X. There is no 4. Which makes the next 2 errors make me want to pull out even more hair, because I sure don’t have a X:5:X!

If anyone out there could help me figure out how to get around these errors, I sure would appreciate it.

It’s not that you can’t write it or use it, it’s that the 3 at the bottom has no musical value. Stick with 6/4 or 12/8, which I assume is what you need for your song.
January 22, 2014 at 5:44 pm #412698:: I guess that’s what I get for trying to do smart things without knowing. So am I going to have to redo my entire tempo map, or can this project be salvaged?

That is the song that I am working with, which signature should I be using?
January 22, 2014 at 5:49 pm #4126993/4 time signature, where 3 is the number of beats per measure and the quarter (4th) note gets the beat.
One two three, one two three, one two three, one two three….
Edit: 12/8, it seems. I stand corrected.

12/8 I’d say. Also, your tempo map is probably fine in terms of BPM, just change time signature at the beginning and you’re good to go.
January 23, 2014 at 7:35 pm #412771Changing the time signature at the beginning screws everything up. Nothing matches. Also, 12/8 is FAR too fast. It When I see the bars coming down in the RBN Preview, it looks like I’m about to play Thrash Metal, not an acoustic ballad. If I redo my project, it would be in 3/4, which looks the best and most appropriate for the project.
However, I’d prefer to not redo the entire thing if possible. Time signatures aside, can anyone help me out with those errors? I cannot find the end event they are referring to, nor the unsynched chords.
January 23, 2014 at 7:43 pm #412774Time signature has nothing to do with speed, it has everything to do with structure of the measure and beats. Upload Reaper, audio and Magma files and I’ll check them out.

January 23, 2014 at 8:46 pm #412785Anyway, the song is almost triple-tempo’ed, that’s why you see lines flying around. The song should be at roughly 75 BPM, 12/8, you have 180/190 BPM average (also, if you need to spike the BPM like at the beginning, your internal alarm should go off to tell you something’s not right). Because you used an unorthodox beat division, your notes will all be off once you fix the tempo map. I also suspect the 3/3 time signature is messing up Magma.
