I am sorry to flood this forum section with many questions, but I am so close to release my first custom, that the few remaining issues are making me really anxious…
My last technical problem is that in a couple of places the lyrics don’t show up in game, so the vocal note tubes have no text attached.
Previously I had issues with misalignments of notes and text events but Magma catches those. I went back and double-checked that the alignment was correct in those places, and in fact notes and lyrics events are linked correctly, and move together in Reaper. The lyrics are also all defined as “text events” / “lyrics”.
So what else in the midi file could cause an otherwise present and properly placed lyric not showing up in the game? Could it be something in the other harmonies tracks?
PS I am not accidentally using the $ symbol which hides lyrics on purpose ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

Damn… is there a limit?
It could be the reason. The last phrase is very long. I have trouble splitting it up because the main voice (harm 1) and the harmonies alternate in turns, but eaxh time one ends the other has already started and viceversa, so there is never a gap to stop the phrase and start another.
I thought I understood from the authoring instructions that Harm1 phrases should always cover Harm2 notes.

Yes that’s correct, but in the cases where it’s normally impossible to split phrases, like in your case, you can split phrases during harm 2/3 notes.

Do you mean to put a phrase gap between 2 notes of the harmonies parts?
I have an additional problem then, because the harmonies have a single tube (3 notes with 2 slides)!
(edit)
Just tryin’ to picture the situation more visually here:
HARM1: Can't you be my cos- mic wom- an? I need you, I want you to be my cos- mic girl for the rest of time
HARM2: Ah............ Ah................ Ah..................
I hope the “code” section above shows the correct alignment to you (it does for me). Basically there is never a gap where both HARM1 and HARM2 are both silent.
I can’t put a phrase markers break inside the HARM2 notes because the “start” or “end” of phrase markers should never touch a note tube.
The gaps between HARM1 notes are VERY short, perhaps I could put the phrase markers break between two of those? It would obviously suck to have the phrase change in the middle of a HARM1 sentence, but it’s better than not showing the lyrics.
Is it at least possible to make phrase markers “touch” each other (next one starts where the previous ends) or should there also be a gap between them (which would make it even more difficult)?

Dude, literally anywhere between Harm 1 parts is fine. Magma won’t get upset, and the game will be fine.

I managed to fix the most problematic part of the songs with your suggestions.
There is still a small bug, but it’s literally one syllable ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” /> When testing the vocals in-game using fixed-screen lyrics everything looks correct, but this one syllable for some reason is still invisible when lyrics are set to scrolling mode. But I hope that with one more phrase split I can fix this too.
