Looks like it’s not just Rock Band making a comeback…

New Guitar Hero game to be announced at E3 – report

    http://www.vg247.com/2015/02/24/new-gui … e3-report/

Personally, I’d prefer if Guitar Hero just stayed away. I didn’t enjoy Activision releasing a bunch of games that one year and ruining the plastic instrument phase, but each to their own.

Elliott (toymachine), who ran a truckload of GH fan sites and is currently manning Riff Repeater, the primary Rocksmith fan site, swears up and down that Freestyle Games (DJ Hero) is currently making a new GH, but we have been given zero details. Now I know that Elliott would never spread false rumours, but I also realise that it’s hard for me to say that everyone should take my word that I’m taking the word of another guy.

I guess these new source leaks basically corroborate his story, but frankly I worry for the success of both, and it goes beyond anything to do with the state of gaming. Popular music is a very different landscape than it was even five years ago; rock is on a pretty major downturn. That probably explains why the last couple of HMX games have been all about electronica.

Why is Rock Band always late to the show?

I think Rock Band is superior but it’s like they don’t even care about their most revenue generating game? I dunno.

Hopefully the vocals engine and pro drums will be a lot better on the new guitar hero. If so then I might switch sides. If not then back to Rock Band 3 and custom songs.

Hoping it’s true only so I can get some new GH guitars. As much as I love the RB series, the guitar controllers for GH were just so much better imo.

I still prefer the GH3 Les Paul of all the guitars. Not sure why, but it felt the best to me.

A lot of people like the GH2 (cause the buttons were smaller and close together) but that felt really “cheap” in my hands after moving on. GH4 has that obnoxiously loud and long strum bar, and the buttons just felt off.

Never been a fan of the RB style guitars.

Trying to find a Les Paul now days is paying like 100 if you want one that works fully. I got one a few months ago for 40, but the yellow button sticks and won’t register a lot. Depressing ha.

And here I am sitting on 3-4 les pauls in storage

I quite liked the GH guitars, as it seems to be the case with many people. I welcome games from both franchises, as I fully expect neither one will support customs and won’t replace RB3, but will be a game to have alongside RB3, and I’d love to see something done with the new consoles.

RB2 guitar is the GOAT for me.

I can’t go back to non-flush buttons and a click switch strumbar, and I know I’m in the minority.

One thing that bugs me and I know I can’t be the only one…

There were rumors of a GH7 at least last year, maybe earlier.

HMX has been playing with the “maybe, maybe not” since 2014.

Who decided to bring it back, and who’s doing it because the competition is doing it?

If Activision (or whoever is doing GH7) is jumping on it after seeing positive feedback to HMX’s doings, it might mean they’re rushing things to be able to compete. If HMX got wind of GH7 coming out and thought they had to publish or lose out to the competition, it puts into perspective why they’re doing DLC from now and teasing so much (i.e. to build anticipation).

I fear these are questions to which we’ll never get concrete answers.

I just hope Guitar Hero doesn’t ruin the genre again. I’d really only like Rock Band to return, for more reasons then just quality. If Rock Band was the only one coming out, casuals might be able to see why Rock Band is such a great game. A lot of people (including some of my friends) shrug Rock Band off because its a “rip off” of Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero has the “circles” and notes are easier to hit. But Rock Band IMO has so much more to offer and so much more variety of music that there really is something for everyone.

That was certainly very true before, but a lot of time has passed since then, and while we don’t really know anything about GH Next-Gen besides the fact that, if this is being developed by the DJ Hero guys, it’ll at least have some form of musical pedigree, we have obviously been tracking HMX since RB3 launched, and especially since the DLC stopped. And I don’t know about anyone else, but this new DLC reads as an ill omen to me. At this point, I’m chomping my nails for the presumed PAX announcement, because maybe then we’ll start learning what’s in with the new game and, more importantly, what’s out.

I’m okay with Rock Band skimping on extra features for the new DLC, and even okay with skimping some features in the long run if it’s a necessary evil to keep this franchise and genre going, but if some things (yes, keys) were to disappear, it would feel like a creative step backwards. And boy howdy, if they try to pass it off as “going back to the series’ roots”.

Honestly, I’m not confident with the new GH either, because I think the execs at Activision are going to try to emulate parts of the franchise that made it more accessible but hurt it in the long run, but even then, we know literally nothing about this supposed comeback either.

I think Keys were one of those things that people really wanted, and didn’t realize what it would do. Not even so much in a bad way. I thought I wanted keys as well.

Looking now, I could honestly take them or leave them. They’re fun, but I believe only a handful of people can play Pro Keys well compared to the usual base. Also, the biggest issue I have with keys was the Harmonix now had to cater more towards key songs to promote their new instrument. The setlist for RB3 had to contain a HUGE selection of key songs, and I’m sure a big decider in their DLC selection was making sure enough songs contained keys. At this point, I think keys should be an extra commodity that and be charted along in a song if it permits. Harmonix should be looking first to provide songs that people will enjoy and want, and then keys should be a second thought of “Oh, this good song has keys. Chart them up”.

Nothing against keys, I just don’t think they should take to prominent roll in the genera. Guitar/Bass/Drums/Vocals are a big part of many songs.

That being said, I think if there was to be another RB, they should focus more on the stuff that’s already working than adding new stuff.

              – Improve the instruments

              – Bigger on-disk setlist

              – TONS of customization for my rocker/band

              – Visual upgrades

              – Bring back online battles

Then focus more on mechanical issues and improve those

              – Overdrive glitches

              – Wonky-ness of Cymbal Swells / Trills / ect

Then start adding in some new features that provide good gameplay, and aren’t too drastic they change everything.

              – More breakneck speed options (similar to GH with speed 1-5). I have a hard time reading drums with breakneck on, but would still like some level of spacing.

              – Open bass notes (something I think GH did right)

              – Broken chords

              – Trigger to enable snare on both R and Y

(This is something I’ve wanted a while. I hate how RB handles flams now [even though it makes sense] mainly during sections when your playing a roll of R’s and then have to quickly hit RY. They could make a trigger that converts yellow notes to red-color snare hits as well. If there are a lot of flams, you could chart the rolls on alternating R/Y so the flam makes sense. Also, when there are snare sections and the drummer is hitting accents on the snare drums [Think of Finger Eleven – Paralyzer] The standard hits could be R while the accents are Y)

I just hope they add more songs, as I’m feel like a pro on Guitar Hero, but on Rock Band it makes me look like a noob

I just hope they add more Iron Maiden as there is no way there will be Guitar Hero Iron Maiden, and that would be fun but also hope they add more A7X, and songs they missed like, Holy Diver, Nightmare, Wanted Dead Or Alive and more great songs, also hoping for Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

I am amazed at how often people “want” things and “suggest” things that are already available.

How badly do you want it if you haven’t bothered to check for it?

I like Keys, but couldn’t care less if HMX stopped charting them.

However, your post ignores the fact that what “people will enjoy” varies from person to person – and for someone who plays keys, a song without keys is as useful as a song without drums is to you (I gather from your post you play on the drums) or a song without guitar to the population at large.
