I am finally trying to author a vocal track – first try, and I am lost. According to the tutorials, highlighting the notes in the vocal MIDI file via control-A and then hitting shift-L opens up a text file.
All I get with shift-L is a “bing”. Clearly, I am doing something stupid. Any suggestions?
The tutorial is wrong, that keyboard shortcut is not set by default. Instead, highlight the notes, go to the Actions menu at the bar on top of the MIDI editor screen and select “Show action list…”. From there, search for “import lyrics”, select the “Import lyrics for selected notes from file” action and press the Run button. Locate your file, click okay and lyrics appear.
If the lyrics don’t appear as intended, undo the action, edit the text file, save the text file and then re-import. Rinse and repeat until it’s perfect.
You can also find the action and assign a keyboard shortcut to it, fwiw, using NL’s steps.
