So I’ve recently bought a Yamaha PSR-273 Portable Electronic Keyboard for 5 dollars at a yard sale, but I can’t get it to work on Rock Band 3. The keyboard has a Midi in and out, which I plug my midi cable into the out and into the in of my midi adapter, flick the switch to keys, and plug the usb into my xbox. The midi adapter turns on like normal and I power up my keyboard, but in game none of the notes are registering. Did i miss a step? or does this keyboard require more prepping? I’m not entirely sure what else is left. The midi cable connecting the two is Haso brand, if that contributes to the problem. Thanks in advance.

Looks like on page 58 the manual says you press the PC button and then + in order to use “PC mode” which I think means midi out

Thanks for the advice but unfortunately it didn’t work. However when I was messing with the midi adapter, specifically with the instrument switches (D,K,G) The led would only turn on Guitar not on keys or drums. Is that normal? I read it does that for certain instruments but I don’t know for sure.
August 2, 2020 at 10:55 pm #513254Make sure the switch is in the middle for K for keyboard. Also it could be a simple issue of having a bad midi cable, I had to replace mine recently
PC mode would not be needed to go into Midi mode
If you use Pro Keys 2 Hands, you a cheater, just saying

Sounds simple enough. Funny enough I bought that cable about a mouth in advance for playing midi instruments whenever that chance would arrive. I hope that’s the issue being a faulty midi cable; I’ll be getting another one from my local best buy soon, hoping that’s the issue.
October 7, 2020 at 2:25 am #514498So I went ahead and bought another Midi Pro adapter and it actually worked this time around, so that would mean that the issue is with my old pro midi adapter. Any advice on fixing it? I took it apart to clean off the sticky residual off the cover but in doing so the cables connecting the midi port to the main board ripped off and I re solderer them back to place but still nothing.
October 7, 2020 at 11:03 pm #514517Sounds like you did more damage to the unit when the wires tore off the board. The only way you will know if the adapter is now at fault is to get another and try that.
In the future please know that almost all the available Midi Pro Adapters have that nasty sticky film on them. That film comes off fairly easily with some rubbing alcohol and paper towels. NEVER disassemble the adapter!! Taking it apart leads to what happened to you, breakage of wires. If the wires pulled the circuit board traces off with it, its trash and time to get a new adapter.
Good luck!
October 7, 2020 at 11:30 pm #514519I had to take it appart to mod it to be able to switch to PS3/Wii.
October 8, 2020 at 2:20 am #514524Thanks guys for the responses guys I appreciate it. While unfortunate that I ruined this Pro Adapter, I only spent 20 on it. I’m curious about the mod you’re talking Alternity. Is it on youtube or something?

I’ve done a similar conversion hack (but not as good as Alternity who installed a switch) and I kept pictures of the process. I was supposed to publish a thread with instructions but mainly I never did because of the inability to post pictures to the forums.
EDIT: new forums allow to drag-and-drop pictures! So I just made a thread about the conversion hack ” data-emoticon=”” src=”
