Is fixing “Shout” on Wii possible?

So most of you people probably aren’t totally aware of this, but on the Wii version of “Shout” by Tears for Fears, there an audio glitch that causes the snares in the audio stems to not play after a certain part of the song. While I do think this is kind of cool sounding, it is a glitch, plus it probably gets hard for drummers who can’t hear what they’re playing. Harmonix is aware of this, but decided not to fix it since “it wasn’t a big enough problem.” So I was wondering, would any of you expert technical people know how to fix the problem? If you need a Wii version of the song, I can attempt to copy the song off my SD card and PM it to someone who would want to look at it.
November 28, 2013 at 12:56 am #409885You can’t touch the audio. It’s in an encrypted BIK format, to the surprise of no one. It is certainly not a trivial fix. You’d have to mix down your own audio from the Xbox version, but even that’s not easy to get a hold of.

It may be an issue with a number being off somewhere else, since the audio doesn’t just cut off randomly, it happens at the beginning of a song section, and as far as I know Harmonix probably doesn’t use an automatic conversion tool for Wii like Le Fluffie has. The best thing that I can think of doing is taking unmodified Wii and Xbox versions and comparing their contents for any abnormalities. That’s doable, right?

If you start the song after the problem point in Practice Mode, do the snares play? It could just be a stems problem as StackOverflow suggests.

I’ll try to get the MIDI, although I have no idea how to find which file on my SD card is Shout, and even then I don’t know how to extract a MIDI from it.
It probably is just a stem issue though. And a careless one on Harmonix’s end at that.
December 3, 2013 at 6:02 pm #410155It is, but that doesn’t mean it still can’t be fixed. It’s just a little more difficult since you somehow need to mix the sound just as good, ideally.

I can still supply the Wii version of the song though, although the glitch is present in the DLC itself, not my console specifically, so you may not even need what I have. But if you did, how would I be able to tell what file the song is on my SD card? If I remember right, the file names are usually random numbers and letters.

Oh, I have all the files, so I know. Fixing it would be just like loading custom songs and that part should fortunately be easy.

That’s good. I wish I could help with the venture I started, but I’m afraid my involvement may end here. Good luck to anyone who can manage to get a fix.
