I’m sure this is a stupid question, but when I import the MIDI into the Reaper table, is it normal/usual for the MIDI to not map properly to each instrument?

Also, without the MIDI author labelling each separate instrument tab, how the heck am I supposed to figure out which is which?

Ex: Animals by Maroon 5 doesnt map at all to Guitar, maps something that looks like VOX to drums, but something strange to Bass, and something that may or may not be Drums to VOX.

Still trying to get the hang of this authoring thing….I give you guys who are pros at it all the credit in the World because for someone who has done high level HTML, I am just struggling with it.

A lot of free midis wont inicate which track is which. What I usually do is open up a seperate project tab, put in the c3 template, pick a track from the midi and copy and paste it into the vocals track. It will then play that sound. Its up to you then to figure out which instrument it is. Also with a good deal of midis, it wont be 100% correct. Ive had midis that when the notes get higher, they should be going lower. Stuff like that. If you dont mind spending a few dollars per MIDI, I will highly suggest looking at http://songgalaxy.com/midi.php They have tracks named and for a good 95% of all the songs i have used them for, theres barely any errors. Granted it doesnt have every song in the world, but thats my first stop when I look for a midi.
