May 5, 2015 at 4:40 am #444656Hey, we’re allowed to be disappointed.
Of course. It’s just that the “lesser game” argument is invalid. RB3 didn’t have duels, which should have made it a “lesser game”, because it had at least one feature less than RB2. Any game that has at least one prominent feature removed should then be considered “lesser”, and it’s not a great logic.
To be honest, I’d trade drums and pro drums to bring duels back in a heartbeat

The better game would have brought that back to RB3 and then more. None of this trading features for other features. This is what the survey was for. Because apparently more people play in groups and liked those modes. I prefer to play alone, so prettier graphics and duel mode don’t do much for me.
May 5, 2015 at 7:01 pm #444693A few questions I would like to know about the whole RBHP working with Harmonix thing:
1. Who approached who? I assume RBHP approached HMX.
2. Do they know about C3?
3. Are the modifying any of your work?
4. Were they immediately on board?
5. Will we be getting any of the remaining RBHP songs released here or no? since they’ll be in RB4?
May 5, 2015 at 9:49 pm #444704Wow, today’s video was so underwhelming and so vague.
May 6, 2015 at 3:20 am #444729I also have a question…
6. Would applying harmonies to a song require re-licensing or any contact with the owners of the music you’re adding them to? It doesn’t modify the audio or anything. If not, I could see why they’d be game to take them from espher.
May 6, 2015 at 5:54 am #444739A video with Mitch and Ryan from IGN mentioned they were going to talk about a cancelled Rock band game that was in development after RB3 was released. I assume this is Pearl Jam? Unless there was something else they were kicking around.
May 6, 2015 at 8:55 am #444745Any group of people that entered in that kind of agreement (giving content to a videogame developer) is likely to have signed some legally binding contract that prevents them to disclose any information about said agreement, even acknowledging their involvement, so I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for an answer on those questions from said group. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>

I don’t know the specifics but we can infer from what happened with RB3 Versions and Pro Drums that there’s no need to re-license. When they did RB3 Versions and added harmonies and keys they had to re-license because they needed the separate keys stem. The issues wasn’t adding MIDI notes but using a separate stem. When they added pro drums, no re-licensing was done, because they only added MIDI notes. I think it’s reasonable to think that they don’t need a new license. And I want to stress that I have NO knowledge of the specifics, I’m just commenting on what we all know.
May 6, 2015 at 4:28 pm #444768Jeez these “reveal” videos are sooooo revealing . Day Two of completely underwhelming “details.”
May 6, 2015 at 4:40 pm #444769A lot of credit is absolutely due to espher and others at RBHP for ensuring that harmonies will be a prominent feature in RB4, but I just want to make sure everyone understands my pivotal role in the HMX decision-making process:
May 6, 2015 at 4:43 pm #444770May 7, 2015 at 4:00 pm #444831Stage Kit means the MIDI adapter is in, I believe. They are clearly working on a way to make any peripheral compatible, not specific ones.I read their announcement more along the lines of happily discovering that the Stage Kit will probably also just work when/if they get targeted legacy controllers (MPA I’m assuming) working, not that they were purposefully setting out to make the SK and all legacy controllers working.
In any case it is fantastic news.
May 7, 2015 at 4:07 pm #444832To keep things clarified, norde went on to specify in the RockBand subreddit that IGN got it wrong and that the Stage Kit might or might not work, it is NOT confirmed. He particularly pointed out that the venue stuff is now moved to a separate binary file specific to the new engine, and so the Stage Kit will not be driven by the VENUE track as it is now, since apparently that is no longer a thing? So they will need to purposefully and manually patch in support. IGN, it looks like, jumped the gun.
May 7, 2015 at 4:25 pm #444833no news today i suppose?

So they will need to purposefully and manually patch in support. So what’s the big deal about a new binary format? RB3 moved venue, instrument events, and stage kit events to the milo file anyways. If they’re still using MIDI for general authoring then it should be easy to implement backwards compatibility like they already have.
