I spend whole day trying to make customs work on my Super Slim, and i didn’t found any other thread about it, so i guess i’ll do this.
As far as i know, this is the only way to play customs on OFW, which doesn’t require Free Pack 1, neither logging in to PSN, so there is no risk getting banned.
We’ll need
USB stick (if you know how, installing pkg through local network works too)
PS3xploit-resigner (for purpose of this tutorial, i’ll assume you know how it works and you’ve already dumped your idps and act files, if not, you’re propably using different exploit, here is the perfect place to start)
For the first time, you’ll need to run C3 Con Tools and select PS3 converter, this will create folders you’ll be using to convert your songs, after that create empty text file called songs.dta in “C3Con Toolsps3Merged Songs” folder, you need to do it only the first time, after that everything will be done by C3Con Tools automatically.
Converting customs
1. Obtain X360 CON files songs you want to play from here
2. Put them in “C3Con Toolsps3CONs”
3. Run C3Con Tools, select PS3 Converter
4. Make sure that “Merge new songs with existing” option is selected
5. Click begin
6. Wait for it to finish
Putting our customs in a custom package
1. Copy one of the rap files in “C3Con Toolsbinraps” (i own the NTSC Version of the game, i have no idea if it works with PAL one) to the proper input folder in PS3xploit-resigner, it’ll be used it to sign the package
1.5. Rename the rap file to “UP8802-BLUS30463_00-RBHMXBANDCCFF0D6.rap”
2. Unzip the package you downloaded earlier in a new folder
3. Copy content of “C3Con Toolsps3Merged Songs” to “BLUS30463USRDIRHMX0756songs”
4. Run makepkg.bat
5. Move the output file “UP8802-BLUS30463_00-RBHMXBANDCCFF0D6.pkg” to the proper input folder of PS3xploit-resigner
6. Run the resigner and wait for it to finish
7. There should be 2 files in the output folder of resigner, you’ll need to install them on your ps3, if you’re using the Xploit, you should already know how to do it using either USB Stick or Local Network
8. This is it, the songs should now appear in your game
If you want to save some space on your PC, you can delete the songs from Merged Songs folder, be sure to delete only songs folders, and to KEEP the songs.dta file there, otherwise after installing new songs, previous will disappear, even though they are on your PS3 disk.

are you sure that there is songs.dat file in the folder with your songs?
July 24, 2018 at 10:48 pm #499849are you sure that there is songs.dat file in the folder with your songs?
it did not appear, but I tried again from step one, and I realized that the file is not “songs.dat”, it is “songs.dta”, or at least it worked for me when converting from CON to ps3, the thing is that now that I install the pkg with the rif, the rock band 3 freezes, when selecting to go to the songs, and in game data tools appears rb3customs, with a blank image that says “rb3 custom for ps3 have xploit “or something like that, what did I do wrong ?, sorry for botheringJuly 25, 2018 at 8:31 pm #499883thanks for the forum I needed it now I can play the songs on my ps3;)

i fixed the typo, but i have no idea why it hangs up while loading, are you using usa or eu version of the game?
August 31, 2018 at 4:46 pm #500568I’m having problems to get my customs work. The game freezes or crashes when I got to select the songs. Can you provide some info? I think it has something to do with the coding thing on the song.dta. Last time I installed customs on my PS3 the text coding for the song.dta was ANSI, but now it has UTF-8 and it’s not reading them on my friend’s PS3. I converted the file to ANSI but it ends losing characters and I’m starting to lose my shit. I dunno if I explained that well. Could you please check that for me? In which text coding is your song.dta file? You can check that just by opening the file then clicking “Save as”, in the bottom of the prompt window you’ll see the coding thing. Please reply as soon as possible.
August 31, 2018 at 5:12 pm #500569I’m using UTF-8 (C3 CON Tools is also set to use UTF-8 AFAIK) and it works fine on a CFW PS3.
The freezing might be caused by a typo in the DTA file, I’d really suggest rebuilding it from scratch if you can, if not, it’s probably gonna be hard to find the problem. (You should ask theses question in the PS3 Discord for faster responses tbh)
September 12, 2018 at 10:48 pm #500756ok so i just made an account and was able to follow your guide. i have a cech-3001a ps3 with the HAN exploit running on it. i have a couple questions, first off how do i delete songs from my music library on rock band 3? secondly do i have to repackage songs i already have on the library when adding new songs or do i package new songs on i plan to add and install them?
September 13, 2018 at 3:18 pm #500762For the first question, the only thing you can do is wipe your customs; if you delete any of them in-game the folder will be wiped.
For the second question, all you need to keep is the dta file. When you make a new PKG and install it it will overwrite the files, so that’s why you need to keep your dta file so that you don’t overwrite your metadata. You can choose to keep the song’s folders or not, it doesn’t really matter. If you keep your folders though, when you wipe you will still be able to recover all your customs, so I guess that’s best practice.
I’d recommend hunting for a moddable PS3 as it’s way easier (you’d have FTP access; direct file access from the PS3 too).
October 17, 2018 at 2:48 pm #501444First of all, Thanks for this EXCELLENT guide!! Its a little tricky but once you get the hang of it, its all good.
Just a couple of questions:
You mention that the only files that can be deleted are the ones in MEREGD SONGS.
1. Each time you create a new PKG it has to have all the same songs you-ve alredy copied before?
2. Since the files in the SONG folder, must be kept there and the PKG must have them, the USB transfer limit is 4GB, so you can’t transfer more than 4GB in songs via USB?
October 17, 2018 at 8:43 pm #501453Each time you make a new PKG the songs.dta file will be overwritten. You want to keep that file and update this instead of overwriting it.
And you are correct. I am a CFW user so I don’t have this problem, but I believe people developped ways to separate a PKG because of obvious games or DLCs that are bigger than 4gb. Google will probably help you with that.
Also just a heads up, this doesn’t work with 4.83 so don’t update your PS3.
