Hello! I have a problem: I want to go to university next year, and the application requirements require that I attach a personal statement. I have already read that this is a very important document, on which a lot depends, but I don’t understand where to start. What should I write in it? How long should it be?

I understand you, I was in the same situation a year ago. I also didn’t know how to start and was afraid that I would write nonsense. But you know, the main thing is not to copy other people’s templates, but to write sincerely about yourself, why you want to study and what motivates you. It is very important to show who you are, and not just list your achievements. This article really helped me then — https://www.ozessay.com.au/blog/personal-statement/ — it laid everything out on the shelves, there is both about the structure and about the mistakes that should be avoided. After that, it became much easier to put everything together into one coherent story.

The hardest part is not to fall into cliches and not to write like everyone else. Many places write “I want to change the world” and stuff like that, and the committee has read it a hundred times already. I started with a description of one real-life incident that influenced my choice of profession – the text immediately became more lively. By the way, thanks for the link, Anna, I’ll definitely take a look. But to be honest, I started a draft, put it aside, and a couple of days later rewrote everything again. Sometimes you just need a little time to get everything in your head.
