I am getting rusty on the details of the Wii modding that needs to be done for customs to work. I’ll going to look into this again and hopefully come up with something new.
The GAF guide is quite easy to understand and seems to have more recent info. Like, this FTPii thing. I haven’t used it myself, but I imagine the DLC building step could be massively simplified if the BIN files were just moved to the Wii via FTP automatically after building. And because it looks like there’s NAND access, even moving app files could be done. That would save a bunch of time. Cache resetting would be trivial. Various issues… gone, maybe?
I didn’t find any info on loading discs this way though. What error is it specifically?
October 10, 2014 at 7:50 pm #430885Update: I think the sZFE WAD installed fine; now I get the error that something (I do not remember the exact wording) cannot be restored to the Wii System Memory (an in-game error). I am trying to clear the cache now. When I attempt to reset the cache, I get:
fopen error
Press any button
What do?
Hey, Overflox, you got any ideas for this? Thanks
October 10, 2014 at 8:10 pm #430889Are you in the mood to try the latest and possibly greatest method to do cache resets? I’ve gotten this working on my end.
Get WiiXplorer. The latest, preferably.
Run it off your SD card with the Homebrew Channel.
Click on the Start button (lol I know) and go to Settings > Boot Settings.
Enable the second NAND option. Click OK on the dialogs that appear. You have to do this every time.
Exit the Settings menu.
Start the FTP. It’s in the Start Menu.
Download and install FileZilla.
Connect using the provided IP and port if it provides one.
You should now be able to access your SD card and NAND from your computer.
Go to title/00010000/535a4245/data and delete the MSTORE.VFF file. If you are having trouble navigating to a folder, it could just be a hiccup from the program. It’s not perfect and it’s a dead project, so this looks like an unavoidable issue. But, the result is still very convenient.
October 10, 2014 at 11:19 pm #430897Will this make it easier to avoid the “Add-on content cannot be restored to the Wii System Memory” error through NeoGamma? That’s the issue I’m currently on, and will still be my first custom song (haven’t fiddled with any rereleases or RBHP upgrades, so I don’t think I need a cache reset yet…)
October 11, 2014 at 12:50 am #430903Make sure you’re loading the game with IOS 249 and that it’s up to date. Of course, common-key and ng_id files being correct as well.
October 11, 2014 at 12:58 am #430904I have the common key and ng_id files in their desired locations, thankfully. I have IOS 249’s successor, d2x, installed, but I think I’m using version 6 from ‘GAF’s Wii Homebrew Tutorial for Dummies’ that you graciously linked to.
Edit: When launching the game through NeoGamma, an error shows up during the loading process that says “No Patch Found” for the Game ID “SZBE69” (Rock Band 3), but continues launching anyway. Will find out if this has any bearing on the situation
Will report back if the latest version of d2x fixes the problems, and if not, will install the old IOS 249 where it needs to go.
October 12, 2014 at 7:17 pm #430972Yeah, d2x is supposed to have superseded it and be better, but I don’t think I have it, probably meaning it’s not required.
Where are you getting this Patch error? Maybe it’s some of the loader’s options?
October 12, 2014 at 7:24 pm #430974Fair point. I’ll install IOS 249 where it wants to go, then.
The error shows up in a “blink-and-you-missed-it” kind of moment as the loader is mounting the Wii Disc to start the game. It may be a patched wad that’s part of the mod pack from the guide in your first post, but I’m not certain, as the loading stage didn’t specify what the patch was. Or, it could be referring to cheat patches, like Gecko/Ocarina/Wiird, etc.
October 13, 2014 at 12:03 am #430996I’m back! Been gone a few days. I see you guys are still stuck at this. Have you guys tried patching IOS37 like I suggested?
EDIT: Like I said before, I haven’t modded a Wii in a while but, IOS37 does have to be patched, IF I remember correctly. The other option would be to install Hermes cIOS 222 with a base 38 MERGED with IOS/Base 37. Now, when you launch the game from a USB loader, you should have it launch the game using cIOS 222. This is just one suggestion for those of you having issues.
October 13, 2014 at 1:15 am #430999Make sure cheats aren’t trying to be loaded. There shouldn’t be any.
October 13, 2014 at 4:21 am #431005Good thing I didn’t have any cheats to begin with.
Snoop, I tried Googling how to patch IOS37, and kept coming across RawkSD discussions. Last I checked, not only is that not RB3 friendly, but I figured that wouldn’t get us anywhere. I’ll keep looking while I install the IOS 249 tomorrow after work.
October 13, 2014 at 12:22 pm #431014Given the fact that RB3 specifically uses IOS37 I think it does make it RB3 “friendly”. Yes IOS37 does need to be “patched” and yes RawkSD is the “old” way of doing it which is why I suggested installing Hermes cIOS 222 (which you absolutely should have done already) with a base 38 merged with 37. You should have installed IOS249 from the very beginning. D2x is newer but, newer isn’t always better.
October 13, 2014 at 6:14 pm #431037But haven’t some people gotten it working with d2x? I think I don’t have it, but it can’t hurt to have.
Anything that ever did need to get patched should have been done in the guide form the first page after the ModPack step. If even after that it’s not working, then that is what could be causing so many problems.
But why poke around and guess? Have you tried SysCheck? If it’s not working for you, upload the results of your SysCheck so I can compare to mine. Then it should be easier to find out what is actually needed.
Edit: Here is an old syscheck of mine and is still valid for checking against. I have d2x, so let’s say it’s required.
October 14, 2014 at 6:08 pm #431057Oooh, good idea! We should add this to the main tutorial, I think. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
Edit – Here’s my sysCheck:
October 15, 2014 at 12:27 pm #431082Yeah, I’m sure people have gotten it to work with d2x. I don’t have d2x on my personal one. I’m thinking of buying a Wii just to refresh my memory on the whole process. I usually run an IOS manager within Wiimod or MultiMod (instead of syscheck) to get more detailed information about my IOSes.
Looking at your syscheck, I only see “stub” on IOS222 and 223. As I’ve stated, you need Hermes in there. Without those, it simply will not work.
