Just a heads up, which may affect a few people. As of Dolphin 5.0-2874, app file size restrictions are enforced. Previously you could stuff the app files for meta and song data to as much as you wanted. Now the restrictions are like on the real console unless you use an earlier version. DLC which does not comply won’t be loaded, which is much more of a hassle than it’s worth to work around.

Real console supports at least 1.5gb so it’s not that bad I guess.
April 10, 2017 at 6:07 pm #483816April 10, 2017 at 8:42 pm #483818I was thinking, i installed wads to get songs from the rock band store for free, so would i need to install the sZGE wad in order to get it to work. I keep getting the “unable to restore contents” or something like that.
I would suggest to read the rules on what you can talk about here.
April 20, 2017 at 8:35 am #484173Hello Stack and company. I’ve been working all day (literally) on this project to get customs working on my Wii, but to no avail, and after many bumps and roadblocks and progressions and delays, I’ve decided to swallow my pride and ask you (and/or others!) for help. I’ll try to be as detailed as possible to make this as simple as possible!
To start: I only decided to ask for help after I stopped getting the “License has expired” error. Now I’m not getting that error anymore… the two custom songs I chose don’t even seem to be found. But they were “found” (the loading content top left bar you describe) when I initially started fiddling around. So here’s a breakdown I’ve what I’ve done…
I have an original Wii with chipset GC2-D2C (v1), NTSC region. There was a time when I had it modded with homebrew installed, but that was ages ago. Today, I decided to have a whack at it and get it up to date for the sake of expanding my Rock Band 3 library.
I successfully (I think!) soft-modded my Wii today using Letterbomb on my 4.3U System Menu with a 2gb SD card. The Homebrew Channel is installed. This was my first step, and I was feeling pretty good about it!
I used BootMii to make a backup of the NAND. It’s on the 2gb card, but I also copied it over to the 8gb SDHC card I typically use for the Wii (for Rock Band 3, specifically, which has about 200 songs on it from the store, purchased as recently as last week). I’ve been exclusively using the 8gb SDHC card since I completed the above steps.
I used the “d2x cIOS installer” through the HBC to alter the operating system. I followed the instructions to the letter, which was supposed to install “cIOS 249 base 56 v10 beta53-alt” followed by “cIOS 250 base 57 v10 beta52”. I think it was successful.
I installed WiiXplorer (R259) onto the apps directory of both the 2gb SD card and the 8gb SDHC card. It works.
I used USBLoader GX to rip my Rock Band 3 disc onto an external USB hard drive. I successfully launched Rock Band 3 from USBLoader GX using both the disc AND the image on the hard drive. I used the global setting, which should have pointed to the “49” setting. I’m kind of out of my element on this particular point…
I used C3CON Tools version 398 Wii Converter to get my “ng_id.txt” file identify number thing. I did it twice with two different files just to make sure!
I used a program to create a common-key. I made sure to remove any extension and place it in the RB3Wii-DLC-Packer2.1 folder along with the ng_id.txt file.
In addition to the provided custom, I acquired another and labeled the meta folder as 054_00000036_songname_meta and the song folder as 055_00000037_songname_song.
I checked the songs.dta files (for each of the two songs chosen) in the meta folders to make sure the file path was correct (dlc/sZFE/052/content/songs/nlfr/nlfr for example).
I ran wadpacker.exe but I’m unsure exactly what it did…
I ran RB3WiiPackTool to prepare the batch file.
I ran packdlc.bat to create the .app and .bin files. The files generated were as predicted:
00000034.app
00000035.app
00000036.app
00000037.app
052.bin
053.bin
054.bin
055.bin
Question: There already appears to have been a 00000026.app that came with the tool set and it is apparently used to generate these other files. I discovered this by accident when my OCD made me delete the seemingly random 00000026.app (thinking I had accidentally created it by some screw-up) and then the above-used tools wouldn’t create the .apps or .bins anymore.
That being said… I took the four .bins and I put them in the newly created sZFE folder under privatewiidata. I ignored the .app files. Is that correct? Recall, I’m using an actual Wii and can boot Rock Band 3 either from disc (with or without USBLoader GX) or from the image ripped by USBloader GX.
For redundancy, after failures, I downloaded ModpackV14 to install the 25 included .WAD files using the provided WiiMod app. Everything read successful.
I deleted the MSTORE.VFF file using WiiXplorer. I did this multiple times over the course of multiple Rock Band 3 boots, both using the disc directly, the image on the hard drive through USBLoader GX, and the disc image through USBLoader GX. It would refresh the songs (261 songs in about 10 minutes), but the two custom songs would not appear. All of my legitimately purchased DLC was fine, however. I didn’t try playing a song, though, because why bother?
If I were to guess my problem, it has to do with the new folders housing the DLC and the WAD files that go with them. I’m lost on that. I have no idea what these WAD files are or where to acquire them (or why). I thought maybe it had to do with the WADs that came with WiiMod or it was handled by d2x cIOS, but apparently not. I’m stumped, and I hope this’ll be an easy issue so that everybody can help me and call me an idiot simultaneously. Thanks in advance, and I’ll be sure to follow up with any more successes or (more likely) failures! I hope I didn’t ramble for too long, but yeah… this post ended up pretty lengthy… sorry!
April 20, 2017 at 10:47 pm #484184So I finally got around to packing Cassandra Gemini from the legacy database and it’s 40,321 KB. Is that gonna be okay?
April 21, 2017 at 4:30 am #484195…
Can you confirm that you are in fact booting from USB; using cIOS 249? I don’t think you can get the custom songs to work with the conventionnal disc way; and I don’t know for certain that loading with the disc and USB is the “same” with usb loader gx. (Make sure that the cache is also created booting from USB (the loading bar thingy))
In your example the path in your DTA is 052 and you are using slot 054; not sure if those are the actual numbers but you might want to check that.
261 songs in 10 minutes seems excessive.. I never really used the real NAND method but in an emunand everything is usually slower than on real NAND and creating a cache with over 2000 songs(packs) takes about 10 minutes…. can anyone confirm on real NAND that this is normal?

I’ll detail exactly what I’m doing here as I do it right now ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
Booted up the Wii.
Turned on the external hard drive.
Selected Homebrew Channel.
Launched USBLoader GX.
(The Rock Band 3 disc is NOT present inside the Wii right now)
Clicked “Select loader mode” at the top and ticked the option to display Wii games.
Clicked “Settings” in the bottom right. Selected “Loader Settings”.
There are a TON of settings listed here, but I think the two you are curious about are “Loader’s IOS” and “Game’s IOS”. Each of these is listed as “IOS 249”.
Selected Rock Band 3 from the games listing. Clicked “Settings”, then “Game Load”. Here everything is the default “Use Global” setting. I could enter a number manually in the “Game IOS” setting, But I haven’t. It just says “Use Global”.
Saved, launched the game. In the top left of the screen, it blinked that 2 new songs were being loaded. But then I immediately got the “license has expired error.”
Decided to play a song for funsies.
Sang Animal by Neon Trees on expert (a purchased DLC song). Had to falsetto most of it. Got slaughtered. 87%. Not even 4 stars ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />

052 was for the song included in the packing tools. 054 (one I downloaded myself) was the second included song. Each has the right path. I just avoided naming the custom song because I am afraid I might break a rule, etc.!

Well, I watched half an episode of 30 Rock on Netflix each time I loaded the list… and I did it three times. So… this is consistent for me!
Thanks for your reply! I look forward to the next.

What are you doing? It was already done this whole time.

What WAD did you install? Instead of using sZFE, why not use sZGE? I can’t recommend anyone start with sZFE if they can get sZGE working. Get the files here. The WAD is included. Install the WAD on your system. Then, when you pack your customs, the game should be able to read them.
April 22, 2017 at 6:10 pm #484256that’s the download I used… it doesn’t matter, though, I tested it and it works fine.
April 22, 2017 at 9:33 pm #484261What WAD did you install?
See, that’s the thing… I don’t think I ever installed a WAD. I tried to say that in my above post.

Sorry to be a nuisance, but this is where I get lost. I see the .WAD file in the rar… I just don’t know what to DO with it. And I’m not sure the original post explains it very well. I’ve read it a bajillion times at this point, but maybe I’m an idiot ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
So, point blank: How do I install this WAD?
Instead of using sZFE, why not use sZGE? I can’t recommend anyone start with sZFE if they can get sZGE working.
If you can’t recommend starting with sZFE, why is it in the example in the post? Sorry, this part is all new to me!
April 22, 2017 at 9:51 pm #484262You need to install the wad file for the generation you are using to unlock it. You already have a wad installer provided with the tools you used to mod your wii; you can use that.

Could you elaborate with more specific details? I placed the sZGE.wad file Stack linked to into the wad directory of my SD card. I used WiiMod v3.2 to attempt to install it and the following happened:
Opening “sZGE.wad”, please wait… OK!
Installing WAD, please wait…
>> Reading WAD data…
>> Installing ticket…
>> Installing title…
>> Installing content #-1…Error: (-1022) Content did not match hash in TMD. Try with AHBPROT mode or an IOS with the correct permissions.
Press any key to continue.
That error is familiar… I remember seeing it in the hundred+ pages of this thread. I’ll have to search that.
I didn’t do anything with a ticket or a title, so… perhaps you can shed more light on that? I literally just slapped the linked-to WAD file into the directory and gave it a whirl.
Next, I hit “Change IOS” from WiiMod. The default was 236, apparently. I selected 249 and it displayed AHBPROT as enabled, but I received the same error when I tried installing the WAD again.
I feel like this is a fruitful conversation, in a way, because these steps will end up much more detailed and fool-proof and can be placed in the original post to help others!
[edit]
Apparently this error message 1022 means I did it right? Well, apparently not…
Now I’m getting a different error. “Add-on content is corrupted and cannot be read from the SD card.”
But I was able to load a song from my downloaded DLC and play it, and I can still access the music store. I decided to delete MSTORE.VFF to refresh the cache. No change, no luck.
“Loading new downloaded content…” 261 songs in 10 minutes, but my library of 343 songs does not have the 2 custom additions in it.
Very oddly, the four .BIN files for the two custom songs I moved into the newly created sZGE folder seem to have disappeared… did the Wii delete them!?
April 23, 2017 at 4:09 am #484272This is the wanted error.
The “”Add-on content is corrupted and cannot be restored from the SD card.”” error has usually to do with either the slot not being unlocked; or a wrong filename/path in DTA file.
I have no idea why the game would delete BIN files; stackoverflow might be able to help you to figure out why; maybe when using the real NAND method the game deletes wrong files?
