Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section but, I need to be pointed in the right direction.
Where can I find a tutorial on making custom songs for the Wii? I thought I saw one on the forums once but, I seem to be overlooking it because I can’t find it! Maybe I saw it on a different forum?
I would like to contribute to the longevity of the game.
Thx

The target platform doesn’t matter as much. It’s like making custom songs, only you convert them yourself at the end using C3 CON Tools. I don’t think there’s much on a tutorial for making custom songs, so at best you start learning everything about it from the docs, then watch the authoring tutorial vid here.
March 7, 2014 at 7:57 pm #415246Hmm…. so, how did the people who currently make customs learn how to do it if there are no tutorials? Were they involved with the original Rock Band project and now they’re contributing their work on the side?
I glanced over the docs and it doesn’t look too complicated. I was a classical pianist at one point in my life so I know music and I have a little experience with DAWs. Of course, the issue always is, time. Finding time.
I am sure the first song I make will take weeks (if not months) for me to make. Approximately, how long does it take an experienced author to make a song for RB if he/she just sat down and worked straight on it?
March 7, 2014 at 8:23 pm #415247Hmm…. so, how did the people who currently make customs learn how to do it if there are no tutorials?People want a “make it easy, cover everything in 5 minutes” tutorial. There is no such thing. This process takes a lot of time and effort. The first people who figured out how to make customs did it by having a lot of patience and dedication, through trial and error. Then HMX created the RBN and RBN tools and the “tutorial” became the RBN Docs. But whenever you send someone to the docs the answer is typically the same “but that’s reading, and it’s a lot, and I was hoping for a quick 5 minute video” and hence “there is no tutorial” because the docs ARE the tutorials. They cover 95% of everything you’d ever want to know about making a song.
March 7, 2014 at 11:38 pm #415251I understand what your saying. Just don’t include me in that group of people. My question was genuine without any sarcasm involved. I never asked for a 5-minute video tutorial. Since I don’t know what information is out there about making custom songs because, I am new to all this, I simply asked for direction. You could have just said “the docs are the tutorials” without everything else. I never complained about reading the docs.
So if the tutorials/docs cover 95% of everything needed, the other 5% is just extra info that is not really needed to author?
March 7, 2014 at 11:42 pm #415252The RBN docs cover authoring a song for official release in the game. The other 5% you need to make the files into a custom that can be played in game without needing Harmonix to do it.
That you learn by reading the many threads on Magma: c3 Roks Edition.
March 8, 2014 at 12:04 am #415254Well thank you for that information. I will begin reading.
March 17, 2014 at 4:08 am #415675A brief note. Songs most recently released will now feature higher-quality 256×256 album art by default. While this looks much, much nicer, it also takes up more room with 33KB instead of 9KB. Check generated app file sizes with this in mind because it may mean you can fit less songs together. It shouldn’t be an issue because you get practically unlimited slots for songs.
March 21, 2014 at 3:44 am #415914Will any of the older songs be updated with the new high-quality artwork?
March 22, 2014 at 11:15 pm #416022At first I was updating old releases with new venues, but album art is a little more of a hassle. The faster solution would be to convert everything in the album art repository thread, and then just let users add them optionally.
March 24, 2014 at 7:28 pm #416169Great to see, that you still maintain Customs on Wii. I didn’t play much Rockband 3 lately. Meanwhile i play more rocksmith. But Rockband is still a funny party game and i will add some new Customs from this site. Thank you for all your efforts. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
March 26, 2014 at 4:45 am #416308Actually the rock band series isnt affected by the whole ending on online support. It mostly affects only pokemon/mario games. I checked the official post on nintendos website and the rock band series isnt being affected by this apparently

Worried about buggering everything up but REALLY want to play these mods.
I have the game on disc and if I soft mod the wii, will the game still run from this rather than having to create a USB loader ?

Based on what others have reported to me, it probably won’t work without running the game from a USB loader. The game will just give you licensing errors.
