I don’t play vocals all that much so I wanted an opinion, is it speed, slides, range changes?

For me, it’s a mix of different things; the overall range of a song (especially within individual phrases), the speed of the vocals (in some situations such as “Pure Bedlam for Halfbreeds” by Polkadot Cadaver, the vocals were fast and varied enough for me to warrant a devil tier for them), and in rare instances, really long notes (think the end of Painkiller). Keep in mind that vocals are easily the most subjective tier, so one’s “three dots on vocals” could easily be “at least five dots on vocals” for someone else.

Two other factors are how often does the player gets a chance to take a breath and rapid pitch changes.

Think Bohemian Rhapsody in this certain section. “Galileo(5x) Figaro. Magnifico-o-o-o.” Something like this would warrant a higher difficulty.

Thanks for posting this, I literally forgot to mention those in my post. These are actually rather important, I feel, as these two things really determine how hard a song would be for the average singer, IMO.

Also worth noting that having any unconventional/out-of-key notes will often increase a song’s difficulty.
