luckily, you don’t speak for the majority. it’s these types of comments that divide communities. and i for one have no tolerance for division. there is some dope ass people from those communities that have recently come over to this site and have shown some real gracious spirits in the name of collaboration. so try your best, but i for one won’t be taking your comments and opinions any further than the 2″ in front of you.

June 28, 2020 at 9:12 am #512414The OP asked how to convert charts for RB3, not how to use (often error-ridden) old conversions made for a different game.
June 28, 2020 at 10:30 am #512418In my experience, it’s not too hard. I do most of my actual note placement inside of Moonscraper (the charting software for Guitar Hero 3 and Clone Hero) and it has an option to export as MIDI. I would take the MIDI/CHART file of the GH song and run it through that, producing a semi-Rock Band compatible MIDI. All you’d need to do then is add Vocals, drum fills and maybe clean up a few sections, if you’re feeling adventurous maybe add keys.
I am not sure I’ll ever do it, but I have GHVH and I might be interested in converting to RB some of the still missing songs.
Do GH games also use midi files or do you have to somehow convert a different file format to midi?
Is there a checklist somewhere for stuff that needs removing/adapting/adding to make the chart work in RB?
At least I remember that GH games support broken guitar chords which need to be changed, and obviously drums require some sensible remapping.

The Phase Shift conversions use MIDI
The Clone Hero conversion use .chart which needs to be converted to MIDI
Reaper will still be needed to add in solo markers, drum fills, pro notes, harmonies, forced notes etc
Is there a checklist somewhere for stuff that needs removing/adapting/adding to make the chart work in RB?
Guitar/Bass:
– Forced notes should be removed before importing to Reaper
– Tap notes should be removed
– Broken chords should be changed to either single note HOPOs or chord HOPOs
– Open notes should be removed and the note placement should be adapted to reflect this (don’t just move opens to green and call it a day)
Drums:
– Should be fine to export as is, pro notes will need adding in when in Reaper
– Might want to swap around cymbal placement and simplify things like flams to compensate for Neversoft’s lazy 4-lane conversions and overcharted drums.
Keys:
– Need charting, unless you’re not going that far
Vocals:
– Vocals should retain their charting from the midi/chart file, if not then they’ll need a re-chart
– Make sure everything is pitched in Reaper if converting from the original file
– Make sure phrase markers and overdrive markers are in the correct place
