I am currently working on my first full band custom right now, but my knowledge on creating customs is limited. Right now my biggest concern is figuring out how to force HOPOs on and off on a Keys chart. Could someone help me through this step.
I am converting the song “Hollow” by ExileLord.
I am also using the RBN2 Template on Reaper. There is no option I can find where I can force HOPOs on and off, that is why I need help. Note: I have yet to convert the Keys chart yet. I just would like to know if/how to force/unforce hopos for the Keys on Guitar chart.
July 6, 2014 at 5:49 am #424144It’s the same note as on the guitar/bass tracks. The note above the orange note is forced on, and the note above that is forced off.
July 6, 2014 at 7:27 am #424145The only reason I asked is because on the RBN2 template, it doesn’t have a designated “Force HOPOs On/Off” section like Guitar and Bass do. I’ll check it out though.

July 6, 2014 at 4:03 pm #424152The custom I’m working on is “Hollow” by ExileLord. I’ve set the Co-op tracks to Guitar and Bass, and I plan on setting the single-player track to the Keys chart.
I have yet to start editing the Keys chart yet, I’m going to start doing that today. I just noticed that there doesn’t seem to be a way to force hopos on or off.

July 6, 2014 at 5:59 pm #424157I just finished importing the Keys chart. While most of the chart came out fine, there are a couple of issues I’m having. Many of the chord switches in the some of the song are charted as hopos, and in one section notes are not hopos when they should be (for the latter, doing this on the Guitar instrument has the same issue, however I know how to force hopos on Guitar / Bass).
Is there any way in Reaper to prevent these issues, or will I just have to deal with it?
July 6, 2014 at 6:29 pm #424158Not sure what you mean by “importing the chart”. Importing where, where are these issues happening?
July 6, 2014 at 6:53 pm #424159I am taking a GH3 chart (converted into midi) and putting it into Reaper. To create the RB3 custom I have RBN2 template that I am using. Everything works perfectly fine when I create the RBA file and convert it into a CON file.
The issue I am having is that I want the Keys chart to be identical to the original Guitar chart. However, due to the way Reaper handles hopos, many of the chord notes have become hopos (and some notes are automatically forced strums). In Reaper, the seems to be no way to force hopos on or off (for keys charts).

I want to know if it’s possible to edit the “Keys on Guitar” chart to force hopos on/off.
July 6, 2014 at 7:01 pm #424161Just because it’s not there in the template does not mean that you cannot do it. Refer to my previous post in this thread to see what notes you’d use to force HO/POs on/off on 5-lane keys.
July 6, 2014 at 7:03 pm #424162Just put notes where the FORCE_HOPO_OFF marker is on guitar, but on the keys chart. It’s the same spot, but the template doesn’t mark it as such probably because most of us wouldn’t have to worry about such a thing.
July 6, 2014 at 7:36 pm #424163There’s a lot of confusion going on here…and I think it stems from those replying being so familiar with the process that they don’t notice his confusion.
Unless he knows that he can show all notes, even those not named, he will not be able to manually place the hopo notes on keys since those notes aren’t even visible on the keys template he showed.
Also keep in mind that the REAPER preview plug in for Keys will most likely not reflect these things as they are not used on Keys…so you’d need to be previewing the keys chart by selecting Guitar on the preview window.
And keep in mind that it’s not about REAPER changing anything. The preview plugin tries to show you what the game engine will do with the chart. So if it’s a chord change that its too close to previous chord, it will default to hopo. If it’s notes or chords of the same kind back to back it defaults to forced strum, etc. Most of the times you shouldn’t change this behavior and instead ask why you’re trying to do something the game engine doesn’t agree with (you may have a valid reason, but most times it’s just incorrect charting).
I’m also curious as to what you said about building a RBA and converting to CON…. you are using Magma: C3 Roks Edition…right?
July 6, 2014 at 8:07 pm #424165It worked. Thank you for all the help.
On a barely related note, I’m going to need someone to check to see if I charted drums and pro drums properly.
July 6, 2014 at 8:09 pm #424166I use Magma v2 (not C3 Roks Edition). I use C3 CON Tools to convert my RBA’s into CON’s.
