Question: Whats the point of having a Song Request section if someone is just going to reply make it yourself? I feel like, yeah, its easy just to say that but thats a bit rude especially when we have a request section for a reason, to request songs. Its okay if you want to feel like the persons requests are unreasonable but that still doesnt mean you have to outright dismiss them just because you feel that someone should just make them themselves. What if theyve tried but cant get the hand of it, I know for me I have that issue but I dont sit here & request because of that reason.

The problem with the song request forum is that basically no one looks at a thread on there and decides to chart a song because someone requested it. If someone requests a song I’m working on, that’s cool, but I’m not going to chart a song just because someone else wants it.

Then whats the point of it? 😂😂😂

          it’s a containment section

It may also be a random spark of light for an uninspired author who is lost in the dark; a gamble.

That said, I don’t blame you for trying. Think of it as competition.

I’ve absolutely created songs from the request thread. Dirty Head – Oxygen and Duologue – Zeros. I love them both and hadn’t heard of either until that thread. So as an author, I check in there and see if there is something that suits me. If so, I chart it. If not, I just move along. If someone says, “do it yourself” well, that’s just an opinion. Hang around until you get the answer you want (you might not since most songs will go uncharted) and just ignore the negative responses until then.

It’s also a good indicator to see what’s popular. I’ve seen many request threads asking for the same songs which eventually get charted. I’ve also seen many requests get charted from people who haven’t heard the song in a while (or ever), listened to it, and then charted it. I’ve also seen people say “Oh really that one hasn’t been charted yet? Who wants to collab with me on it?”

Yes, it’s mot so likely your request will be charted. Especially if it’s a small parody channel from YouTube no one’s heard about. But it does happen. People tend to not like to hear this particular response but it’s the best way to get your request charted: learn how to chart and make it yourself! It’s a lot of fun and you have the freedom to chart as many songs you wanted in Rock Band as you please.

Never was a fan of that subforum and never will. I was against having a Requests forum precisely for the reason highlighted: it makes people think that it’s normal or common for somebody they don’t know will sink 14 hours of their lives on average to create a song they wouldn’t have created just for themselves.

That said, as Septekka said it was also born as a containment area, so that people who simply want to voice their support for songs or bands can post without polluting other areas.

With that in mind, authoring does not require anything special: if you’re typing on a keyboard on a computer, you have everything you need. You are simply not willing to learn how to do it, and for that reason you are relying on the kindness and generosity of other people. The norm is it won’t happen, the exception is when it does. Also, can you point me to those rude posts you said were posted? I don’t remember seeing any (I’m sure you cannot possibly be referring to things like “These songs are oscure, you are probably better off working on it yourself”)

OP is saying it’s rude saying, “do it yourself”. Like most everything else on any internet forum, it’s an opinion. So what you’ll get pointed at you is a whole bunch of threads saying, “learn how to chart”.

Well, I still want to hear him say that something like “These songs are oscure, you are probably better off working on it yourself” is rude, just to be clear what we’re talking about. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”> Because honestly, I don’t remember anything rude recently, but maybe it happened and I missed it. If it’s a matter-of-fact statement like “nobody probably will pick this up, you’re better off trying your hand at it” coming from people who distribute a ton of content to use for free, it’s outrageous to suggest that it’s rude.

Im just saying that for someone like me whos on countless times tried to chart & just simply couldnt for the life of me learn the ways of charting, that its cool to be able to request songs to those who are actually good at charting, but it kind of discourages me from wanting to even bother with that section when someone tells me try harder when it comes to charting. I can tell you that most times in PMs someone will either dismiss or will tell me that if you want said song chart it yourself makes me feel bad for even wanting that song as if nobody wants said song. Catch my drift? Its a generalized topic but I get that those who can chart feel those who try but cant seem to figure it out arent trying hard enough but I can assure you that Ive tried several times but its just not something thats my thing.

I have to say, I really don’t. First of all, you say you’re discouraged from requesting songs, but that’s perfectly fine: you can simply not request songs. And if you like a song nobody else is willing to author you’re left with either trying yourself or, if you tried and can’t, accept that you won’t be able to play it. There’s nothing rude in pointing that out.

if at first you don’t succeed try try again….

May i ask what about authoring are you having problems with that’s stopping you?

is it bpm instrument etc etc?

have you thought about asking authors here for any advice? or is it you just dont like making songs?

I get what your saying about requests. if i was to post up a request for a song from the community and the only response was

why dont you go make it. i’d prolly tell em to eat a d!ck. but hey that’s me

luckily i dont request songs so i dont know how it feels to be in your shoes.

however doing song requests are hard sometimes. alot of us have projects or certain goals were trying to get out

mix that in with life some of us have kids raising family so is hard to devote time.

we do have a diverse group of authors here so eventually most songs/groups will get authored.

i check the requests as well. usually if i get more than 1 request for the same song ill end up making it. just depends

I have read the charting instructions that I believe Farottone put together, and freely admit they’re way over my current abilities on a computer, probably since I’m getting up there in years. Then again, I think I’ve read recently about an “easier” way to chart. Or am I just hoping there’s a super simple way?

I guess it depends on what kind of song you start with. Always start with something easy. Once you figure everything out, it gets a lot easier.
