Hi-hat lanes during disco flip?

    I’m working on a song right now with a similar beat to the one in That’s Tha Homie. That song was released before lanes were implemented, and the hi-hat bursts were ignored and kept as straight 16th notes. But now that we have lanes, is it possible to use them in a situation like that? Will a disco-flipped roll lane behave correctly in both pro and basic drums? Even if so, is it a good idea?

     

    To emphasize, this isn’t a situation where there’s a constant, insane-tempo disco flip that I want to completely encase in a lane. This is a perfectly doable disco beat (120bpm, 16th notes), except there are some 32nd-triplet bursts on the hi-hat that I’d like to lane if possible.

      It’s gonna do more harm than good. Lanes that short are gonna mess up things and look ugly. If those bursts are really not playable (I’m not convinced), they should be dumbed down the fastest playable pattern possible.

        From a player’s point of view, I don’t like lanes alternating with playable notes. It disturbs the rhythm of play tremendously.

        When a lane is disco-flipped, it becomes broken on pro drums. This phenomenon can be seen in the RBN songs “Need Strange”, “Ooh La La”, and “Back to You”. Basically, the lane acts as if it doesn’t exist, and in order to maintain your combo, you need to hit the notes charted exactly (which essentially completely negates the purpose of putting a lane there in the first place). It will work as intended on regular drums, but pro drums is a no-go in this situation, which you do not want in your chart.

        Interesting! I had already decided not to lane from the other comments, but that definitely settles it.

         

        Now I have to admit I’m curious – how would a red/yellow double lane work on pro disco flip? Not that I can imagine how that would ever be something you’d actually want to do, but from a purely mechanical standpoint, I’m curious how the game would handle it.
