I’ve edited TheBrownOneJT’s Guitar-Only version of the song to include vocals here:

I was curious on anyone’s thoughts of grabbing MIDI’s from other places/instruments and syncing them to songs. For example, I got the vocal MIDI track from gbrademeyer at MuseScore, and although it was meant for a trumpet, it worked just fine when combining it with TheBrownOneJT’s midi file (after some tweaking and reductions). Either way, I’ve “cited my sources” by adding both names to my release notes.

Also I was curious what I should put as my songID. Since there’s the Magma bug with newer accounts AuthorIDs, I manually typed in my AuthorID along with some other info.

I use vocal midis all the time. Just be sure to read the RBN docs on vocals authoring and adjust the midi accordingly. Just plopping a midi onto a song isn’t a good idea.

Grabbing midis from other sources and grafting them to songs is very common behavior. When it works well, it can save you a lot of time. When it doesn’t match up, you can still salvage some information (perhaps percussion and pitches).

I’ve used two in the eleven songs I’ve finished, they were great. But watch when you import a midi file, sometimes it brings a host of other ‘events’ and things in the track that you’ll have to account for later. Fortunately Con Tools has a midi cleaner program that worked great for me.

Keeping the content Canadian since 2017!

Excellent. I couldn’t find much information on whether or not it was frowned upon. I’ll keep “citing my sources” though, just to be safe.

I found the midi cleaner occasionally does weird stuff to my imported midi’s, especially ones that don’t use the RB3 track names. What I’ve been doing instead is to open them in Reaper and exporting only the track I want without the tempo track. That way when I add them to a project it doesn’t change anything else, though so far I’ve only been editing other people’s customs.
