So when are we playing this stuff?
I can’t play drums until the weekend, but I can do Bass/Guitar/Vox tonight :]
January 13, 2015 at 2:29 pm #436188January 13, 2015 at 5:39 pm #436210well isn’t this a turn up for the books, I’m going to watch this space, I am curious if this is old content they never got around to release (however that scenario does sound very unorganized and unprofessional), but the fact of no announcement makes me wonder…
Also surely they cannot continue supporting the last generation and with not even a hint of RB4 or RB3 HD for current gen?
Anyway I am still thankful for the songs that would have never seen the light of day via official means: Stairway to Heaven springs to mind.
Wait and see what happens then I guess.
January 13, 2015 at 5:40 pm #436211anyone else only able to find the foo fighters song on the marketplace but not the other 2?
January 13, 2015 at 5:44 pm #436212same here, last I checked about an hour ago
January 13, 2015 at 6:19 pm #436216Also surely they cannot continue supporting the last generation and with not even a hint of RB4 or RB3 HD for current gen?
This is the biggest question to me. I am gladly purchasing these songs to support Harmonix, but wonder how many others (particularly outside of the customs community) will be interested in investing in a prior gen game with no assurance of consistent release dates or current gen compatibility. This certainly isn’t going to be an accurate litmus test of how many people are still interested in the game.
The fact that these are relatively new songs implies pretty strongly that HMX has something bigger coming, since it seems unlikely they’d go out and procure new licenses without an end game in mind.
January 13, 2015 at 7:35 pm #436220I think they are testing the waters cos their other games havent earned them anywhere near as much and theyre seeing our little free loving community and thinking ay we can make some money here lets take it back a few steps
i.e i dont think its them saying theyre going to do loads more dlc certainly not for xbox or ps3 they want to really launch themselves on the new generation consoles and start over with it again and get you buying more songs.
But this is interesting theyve come back but at the same time not surprising because it was by far their strongest brand of games including the beginning guitar heros and the community aint amazingly loving their fantasia game so theyre going to do what keeps them in business its essentially throwing us some bait so we follow them to the next gen consoles with new rock band or dance central and new equipment which could be a turn off if they dont find some how to port all previous content and peripherals to the new gen cos we have all spent more than enough on this gen for it not to be useable on new consoles they know we wouldnt be happy question is will they be smart to bridge the gap or will they be money mongrals and say we don’t care we want your money and tough shit
so ye i dont think this is jump to the moon happynes they’re going to to load more content cos baring in mind this gen console is on its way out eventually and theyve wanted to jump ship for a while they dont want to die out before they really make it to next gen (i know fantasia is on xbox one but they havent exactly made a dent since dropping rock band)
January 13, 2015 at 8:06 pm #436222new rock band or dance central and new equipment which could be a turn off if they dont find some how to port all previous content and peripherals to the new genI will accept buying new instruments (just as its getting hard to find now brand new at a decent price), what I will not accept is having buying my collection again…
and I wonder how many would? New songs fine, but to the people like me who have spent literally hundreds of pounds/dollars/euros on songs, having to purchase the SAME songs again would be a very bitter pill to swallow, and I hope this won’t happen.
January 13, 2015 at 9:34 pm #436225Anyone got any news as to why the other two songs aren’t up? I’m at work but anxiously checking the xbox.com website. Ordered the Foo song so it’ll be ready when I get home, but no luck with the other two it seems

January 13, 2015 at 10:44 pm #436234Hey guys, I’ve been out of the loop for a while. What did I m…WHAT YEAR IS IT?
Can’t say I saw this coming, but happy to see new Rock Band DLC. Now let’s hope MS fixes the problem songs soon, I’m sick of telling my friend that no, I haven’t downloaded the Arctic Monkeys song yet.

Have you downloaded that new Arctic Monkeys song yet? It just came out and it’s awesome!
January 14, 2015 at 1:08 am #436244Anyone gotten a chance to crack these files open yet? If so, find anything interesting?!
January 14, 2015 at 2:22 am #436246We looked at the DTA for Something From Nothing. There’s a version number which I don’t believe was there before, and they’ve re-introduced vocal tonics, but otherwise there’s nothing different.
January 14, 2015 at 2:30 am #436247I’ve gone through the Foo Fighters song. Nothing really extraordinary, unfortunately.

Analysis complete
One thing to get from this is that the whole idea of “maybe they didn’t chart the keys part because it was extra unnecessary work” can be put to bed, since they authored several hundred left hand animation notes for bass and guitar, which I think are much more less necessary than a keys chart
Now, if anyone wants to point a stick at Harmonix for doing shoddy work, MIDI Cleaner found the following:
PART VOCALS: Found lyric 'Now' in a Text Event at [16] and changed it to Lyric Event
Pretty clean beyond that.
One noteworthy thing, if nothing else, is that the album art included is a 512×512 DXT1 image, compared to the typical 256×256 DXT1 images they used for 99% of their songs (others were used sparingly in the past). It takes the album art in size from 43.7KB to 171KB, or half of C3’s 382KB 512×512 DXT5 album art because ours is better ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
As far as the mogg file, it’s still encrypted (duh) with what looks like the same encryption as American Pie, with the mogg header in the same place too. Didn’t expect any change here, but well, worth checking I guess.
There was mention of shoddy lipsync…the VENUE track has lipsync markers alright, so it’s probably down to the actual dry vocals audio used. Meh who cares.
Nothing particularly interesting except perhaps to point out that based on the DTA (since the mogg is encrypted), the drums audio only has two channels rather than the 5-6 they typically did. That means they have the entire drums audio in one stereo kit stem rather than separated kit, snare and kicks, as I think most the official songs did. Also, with only 9 total channels , this leaves only 2 channels unassigned in the DTA, meaning they are being used for backing, which means no future update can enable keys unless 1) that’s the only thing in the backing track or 2) they are willing to add an instrument without it dropping out, both of which seem unlikely. So I think that kills the entire “maybe keys will be done separately like pro-g/b” I saw going around.
And I think that’s all I care to go into detail with. Nothing to get excited about ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />
