I’m making my second custom, and the first where I am finding harmonies I can do. Just a general question: the official docs indicate that harm 1 should contain about the same content as the main vocal track. Then harm 2 and 3 are used for actual harmonies. Anyone know why? Perhaps I am missing the actual reason for either the vocal or harm 1 track.
When you play solo Vocals, you play the PART VOCALS track. When you play harmonies, the lead does the HARM1 track.

The reasoning is that sometimes there is a crossover of singing both the lead vocals and harmonies in the vocal track. It keeps it fun for a soloist instead of not singing the harmonies. Sometimes there is enough room to sing the vocals and some harmonies without there being overlap. HOWEVER, if there is a song you charted that has the lead vocalist singing lead and some harmonies, you leave the VOCAL track as is, but you now take the portion where the lead was singing harmonies and assign that to HARM2 and assign the solo vocals to HARM1. I realize the docs say “most times it will be the same” but wanted to give you the insight of when it isn’t.
So in short:
Use the VOCAL track to cover all vocals that can be comfortably sung
Use the HARM1 track for solo vocals only
Use the HARM2 track for harmonies of an additional singer
Use the HARM3 track for harmonies of any other additional singer
BornGamerRob basically says everything I would say. If you take a look at my custom The Replicator, you’ll see that harm 1 is drastically different to solo vocals because it overlaps a lot. So I had to end parts early and other things.
Very helpful everyone. Thanks for the replies. My way forward is 100% clear now.
