After playing 5 button guitar for nearly 10 years and learning to play real guitar I can say with much confidence that Im not interested in this game. I do not have the desire to learn yet another plastic instrument and moving to two sets of 3 buttons seems like a step in the wrong direction. Maybe two rows of 5 but moving to 3 buttons because noobs can’t figure out how to use their pinkys is a shame. And didn’t the sega cd teach us anything? Nope nope nope nope.
Edit: After looking at the screenshots I have to say the new GH looks exactly like the Tap Tap games for mobile. Add in the fact that this game will come to mobile and tablet and I think we know why they moved to 3 buttons.
April 14, 2015 at 4:29 pm #442759This seems like nothing more than a Trojan horse to push their music video service, which is attached as an “extra” to the game.
April 14, 2015 at 4:30 pm #442760I’m not getting either new game because I don’t have an xbone or PS4, but even if I did… this new controller looks like I wouldn’t enjoy it

April 14, 2015 at 4:57 pm #442765For me this is definitely a must buy on day one…….. hundred seventy eight when it’s discounted to a quarter the price.
I am intrigued by the first person experience, but I think it would get old quick. I’m interested in seeing the tracks they get, and if more than guitar will be charted.
Props to Activision for doing something different. Everyone bitches that CoD is the same every year, the old GH’s were copies, Tony Hawk was a rehash each time. I commend them for taking a chance.
I’m just really glad RB4 will be the full band game for current gen. No competition as far as drunken plastic instrument parties/orgies go.
April 14, 2015 at 5:00 pm #442766April 14, 2015 at 5:03 pm #442767A few thoughts:
Adding a 6th button and redesigning the guitar is silly to me. They are going to use the excuse that it’s supposed to be like playing real guitar, or more similar to playing real guitar. That clearly hasn’t worked, as the only franchise that is succeeding in doing that is Rock Smith. I believe it should either be simulation like Rock Band and Old Guitar Hero, or actually teaching you how to play guitar like RockSmith. This middle ground isn’t going to work for them I don’t believe. Some people might like the idea of learning to play the game all over again, but a majority will want to stick to what they know. And buying a new guitar that only works in 1 game only and not interchangeable like the old RB and GH controllers won’t entice anyone either.
All though I don’t think the first person view in the background is that cool, with the inevitability of VR coming into the market especially with Sony’s Morpheus due out in early 2016, it would be interesting to see if that could be adopted to where you can wear the headset and actually look around on stage while having the gem lane in your headset as well. I can also seeing using this first person method as DLC later on and capturing footage of real bands such as “Play on stage with Green Day!” Or Metallica, Etc…
As far as songs go, one thing I did notice in the IGN post is that Green Day is confirmed, which at one point was a HMX exclusive. So I’m curious to see if any of the old GH exclusives are now free to be in RB4. Also another Rolling Stones song hitting Guitar Hero, while they have been absent from Rock Band since Nov 20th 2007.
Overall this game doesn’t look interesting in the least. This honestly doesn’t even the feel of a Guitar Hero game announcement. I feel the same way about this announcement as when Power Gig and Rock Revolution announced their games when they tried to change the layouts, and we all saw how well those did. These 2 franchises are so different now and going in different directions clearly, it will be interesting how this plays out. For the first time these 2 aren’t parodies of each other, so hopefully we won’t have exclusive battles for artists like last time, because they are so different now you can’t even look at this as a competition really, they are each trying to do their own thing.
April 14, 2015 at 5:14 pm #442769To me that sucks.
Don’t really care about the 1st person and on-stage thing but why not. What I’m sure I’ll dislike is the “real-life” videos, as Singstar did with music videos. But again, ok why not.
But getting rid of every instrument except guitar is a nonsense to me. And what is the point of this new button placement, seriously? It’s like “we wanted something serious but casual”… So no more hand deplacements but we’ll be playing “2-level chords” instead with our left hand. Ok, but then why is there only one mediator meaning there’s only one string?
To me that sucks.
And ofc, they ask us to buy new plastic things and every song back from scratch.
To me that sucks.
Maybe the first GH I won’t buy, really really disappointed. Well, hope the future proves I’m wrong.
April 14, 2015 at 5:34 pm #442771I dislike that they’re dropping half their playable instruments just like Rock Band is doing. It’s really not making me want to buy an Xbox One at all if I still get more features on Xbox 360. The re-designed guitar controller looks stupid. Why change something that’s been working since 2005? I can get behind the new FMV style concert footage but the new playing style looks cumbersome. If I wanted to invest time in learning something new I’d just play a real instrument instead.
April 14, 2015 at 5:47 pm #442772I read somewhere that this looks like a Sega CD game with the FMV.
I’m not a fan of no vocals and no 2 player.
April 14, 2015 at 6:47 pm #442773Haven’t yet been able to watch the videos. Obviously disappointed that it’s going to be guitar only. But I do like the guitar design and will still be getting the game as well. How long I’ll play it, that is to be determined. But I’ll play it.
April 14, 2015 at 7:01 pm #442775So, how is this game gonna work on the 360? There’s 2 FMV per song, and unless the setlist is tiny or they compress the hell out of the game’s main visual draw, it’s not going to fit on a standard 360 disc.
April 14, 2015 at 7:15 pm #442776Well GTAV on the X360 had an installation disc and a play disc. They could do that here too I suppose.
April 14, 2015 at 7:49 pm #442780I legit laughed the entire second half of that reveal trailer.
There are some interesting ideas here but the end product is a hot mess.
