I haven’t given it much thought but the idea is that something changed in the way they process the audio, and for the worse.
November 10, 2015 at 1:57 am #459030Or did they mess up the compressor/limiter signal chain so that it’s suffering artifacts not unlike the “Loudness War”?
It’s a mix of things. Individual instruments don’t pop up anymore, and that’s one. Then there’s the fact that everything is flat: depending on the song you lose drums, you lose rhythm guitar, you lose vocals. There are instances where you can’t hear what you’re playing over the sound of the plastic/ekit instrument. There are songs like Somebody Told Me where I play drums to what is on screen, not what I hear, because there are sections where I have no idea what the gems are supposed to represent because I can’t hear it. At first I thought it was me, but then plenty of experienced people chimed in and I also went back to RB3 to play a couple of songs and things got pretty clear.
November 10, 2015 at 8:02 pm #459060With “better sound”, I meant that the songs itself sounds better…
The sounds of the songs are a very important part to me, but I´m not that “pro” in case of hearing exactly differences…
I only use a Logitech Z5500…and I disable alway the dts sound, because that makes no sense to me if you only attend to music songs…
But in RB4, for me (and so far all of my friends who got an example of the sound quality), it´s like you hear now every single instrument a lot clearer…
Maybe it´s on your “aged ears”, or that I didn´t have a comparison of any other sound system that costs more, do more or got more…

There are open threads on forums, on Reddit, on the official HMX forums and HMX themselves have addressed the problem though not being able to solve it. Individual instruments now don’t get a bump in the volume levels like they did in RB3: that’s by design, HMX has chosen not to make the instrument you are playing louder. That alone makes everything sound the same, instead of making single instruments pop out. And then there’s the audio processing that is making everything sound washed out.
As I said, if it works better for you, that’s great, but it’s a known issue that the audio is worse than it was in RB3, even before bringing up the delay on user generated content that makes classic fills unplayable and karaoke mode unfeasible.
November 12, 2015 at 4:52 pm #459184Thanks Mr. Tone for that information, appreciate it!
Just one question: is there a possibility to make the crowd completely silent?
In the preferences, I always put the crowd and other effects off, and in RB4, you can hear the crowd in the beginning of every song, but that´s it…in RB3, I couldn´t turn the crowd-noise completely off…
And for those who use the Xbox One, just like me, today the new Windows 10 Update can be downloaded, and so far there are 104 Xbox 360-games can now be played on Xbox One…but no Guitar Hero or Rock Band so far

Don’t hold your breath on that one.
