espher came up with this idea a while back, and now I’m making it slightly more public.

 

Would anyone be interested in putting together a pack of famous internet meme/video songs? I’m thinking, like…famous parodies, oldies like Group X or Strong Bad, “Chocolate Rain”, “Friday”, “What What (In the Butt)”, anything by The Lonely Island, stuff like that. Normally I’m opposed to “gimmick songs”, but recently I’ve been realizing that when you’ve got a bunch of drunk nerds at a Rock Band night, this is what they want to play.

 

If enough steam got going for this, I would probably author Group X – “Don’t Touch That”. Anyone else interested? Dibs are ripe for the calling!

I started a discussion about this (and other collaborations I’d be interested in) way back, as noted.

 

My reasoning behind kind for wanting both “modern” (though I didn’t really elaborate in that thread as I was trying to pick three songs I’d want to collab on) and “classic” meme-type packs was exactly what pksage mentioned: nerds (myself included among them) eat that shit up like candy at events.

 

My preference was for a “classic” one, since we got a few modern ones on RBN, so the ones I had suggested included TISM’s “

“, Happatai’s “

” (optionally with misheard lyrics version, though the flash animation only does it for some of the song), Invasion of the Gabber Robots’ “

“. I was also open to Dschinghis Khan’s “Moskau” and Daler Mehndi’s “Tunak Tunak Tun“. I felt those were the strongest candidates.

So, anymore updates on this? As I said, I have finished my chart for Chocolate Rain and is ready to put it into playtest whenever we feel it’s time.

Update on the above: We are officially doing this pack for August 30, so get your butts in gear!

 

edit: If it looks like we’ll have a hard time getting three songs together, we can just FtV TrojanNemo’s “Gangnam Style” (which should be in the pack regardless) and use that.
