Hi all,

 

Are there any drum rudiments available as custom tracks, and if not, is there any interest to create those? I think it would be a great way to practice…

I actually think it would be a bad way to learn drums. Not only you’re not always going to have the game in front of you when you play drums (so you need to start building your memory) but the game does a very bad job of being strict enough with timing and does not grade you based on consistency of volumes, which is essential. You might end up FCing a rudiment track even if your strokes are all over the place in terms of timing (forgiven by the game’s engine) and volumes. Not to mention where exactly you need to hit the pad.

There are some “straight out of the practice book” ones that are in Rock Band 3 in the Drum Training.

Play songs that are above your current ability and not extreme metal because they mainly focus on double bass. Jazz songs or fusion do a great job of using every part of the kit. Prog songs as well.

I was actually thinking about compiling them under one big custom and speeding it up, maybe as several versions. Could be fun.

I’m not sure if I will ever have the time and motivation to learn to play the drums, but I love to play Rock Band, it gives me a close enough experience to actual drumming that I really enjoy it. I do struggle with the faster rolls and fills, and would love to be able to play those really fast songs, as well. Everywhere I look, rudiments are recommended as a way of improving your speed.

Regarding volumes, I use my Roland mesh eKit in combination with superior drummer, so I do notice it when my volumes are way off.

I’m now looking into using the Scope function on my TD9 to use that as a more advanced coach…
