Don’t Use Mediafire… please.

    Eh.

I authored a bunch of customs. I converted a bunch of GH songs. I have spent thousands of hours creating the tools used by most authors. I still spend my time helping farottone moderate these forums.

And I still provide ad-free hosting for the files :smug:

Most customs authors could use Dropbox, which is ad free and usually one-click link. Only very few people NEED the extra space of MediaFire, and those have been offered ad-free hosting space on my server as a thanks for their contribution to the community. More than a few of those people who have been offered ad-free hosting space have refused it and chosen to stick with MediaFire :bang:

I can get the extra space needed, for sure. It’s just the annoyance of the ads and the problems it could cause. Like, not everyone fully understands how to avoid these problems still even now in 2017; or some, like myself, just refuse to use ad-block for one reason or another (or didn’t even know it exists or don’t know how to install it).

Whole point of this post was just to try and suggest an easier and safer solution for uploads for those unaware about ad-ware issues and sites like mediafire.

If you think that wasting people’s time by not reading the rules is the best way to go and people should be all happy to deal with someone who can’t be bothered to read or learn but that will ask others to read and learn and then explain, I’m pretty confident you won’t find a welcoming environment on any forum.

I’m gonna be very forward: this community is a ton of work to sustain, admins are few and we all have busy lives. If you intend to make our lives harder you won’t be posting for long. And if you think we are all such bad persons who are mean to each other I suppose we would only do you a favour not subjecting you anymore to this hellish place.

I’m more or less talking about the people who post about having a problem they cannot find a solution to.

It’s as basic as: “Oh jeez, I’m having a very specific problem and I can’t seem to find a post with the solution that I need, I’ll post something myself then”

Someone responds almost always negatively and rudely, which I don’t see they had any reason to when the person posting just needed an answer.

Come on. You learned how to author, compile and publish customs but you won’t install a browser extension. I give up.

Keeping the content Canadian since 2017!

as someone else has stated in this thread, i use mediafire because of the download numbers, being able to see how many people downloaded my song.

i know that might be a bit selfish to use the less safer option (though i have adblock and ublock and dont ever have problems with medafire) for people to download my songs, but to be honest its nice to see people are actually downloading my songs and that all my work wasnt for nothing.

its a small ego boost and it makes me feel like im actually contributing to the site.

on the other topic , i kinda agree but also disagree about the “dickish” behavior. when i first started authoring i had a million questions but after reading thru all the tutorial stuff plenty of times, ALOT of google and forum thread searches , people really could find out answers to their questions if they just keep at it. A question post every once in a while is fine though because not everything is in the tutorials.

some responses i have seen to new authors or new people have been a bit too much i agree, but hey i guess were all humans with emotions and lives outside of this website that can get to us, dont take it too seriously i suppose.

its much more rewarding to figure out and learn this stuff with what your given, although some parts of the HMX docs and the beginner tutorial are outdated by now. They are a good enough starting point though, and now im gunna stop rambling.

I do a lot of collab work and am nowhere near close to being done charting songs and I’m at 2.4GB so that eliminates a lot of filesharing service. Mediafire has worked for me for some time. If it’s really that much of a problem to close a pop-up tab to get a file then don’t download the song. I don’t mean to be rude but there are far worse things to deal with in life than clicking an “X” on the tab window. It’s annoying but that’s all it is.

I am a college student with a ton of debt to multiple people. I cannot and will not pay for extra space. Sorry not sorry.

You’re on a forum that consists of many tech-savvy people and let’s face it, many computer whizzes are elitist, brash, and straight-up rude. This forum is significantly more tame than many others I’ve been to. The internet isn’t all “excuse me, sorry, thank you”. There’s no room on the internet for the easily-offended. You gotta get used to it.

As someone who for years has paid for web space so you (the community) can download the C3 customs and tools without having to deal with any ads or annoying processes, “just use jdownloader” is a shitty response. Each uploader should provide a painless way for people to download their stuff. I sure do for you.

i mean it’s your time you’re wasting if you think it’s a shitty suggestion. complaining isn’t magically going to move the files to another hoster, so unless the charters themselves reupload them (which most won’t) jdownloader is the best way to fix the ad/captcha issue.

That’s the only good reason in my opinion (worthless as it may be).

Interestingly people using my server get detailed stats thanks to the scripts farottone cooked up…and multiple people have rejected the offer to host on my server.

Should I ever get an invitation to host on your server I’ll gladly switch. Ultimately that’s the only other feasible option (and the best one at that) however I understand space is limited to a select few.

Were I to be offered hosting space I would gladly accept <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

Unfortunately I can’t offer hosting to every one of you. Space and bandwidth are not an issue, but the very limited amount of FTP accounts is. So FTP accounts are reserved for C3 authors (or were, I suppose) and admins, and I had a couple left I shared with the most prolific non-C3 authors. If GoDaddy ever removes the ridiculous cap on FTP accounts I’ll be sure to reach out to more of you.

I’m fairly prolific but I understand the FTP constraints

Pop-up ads tend to almost always give viruses, and that’s no good.

I understand that you’re generalizing about this. But if you do find an offending pop-up, the nice thing to do would be to report it to the ones responsible for hosting said ads.

It’s one to avoid it altogether (with mentioned ad-blocking plugins and download scripts) and leave a website to rot, but it’s better to bring up the trouble with the one pulling the strings.
