Okay, so, I was thinking about making this thread for awhile, someone made a similar thread, but well, here we go!
Customs vs RB4 DLC!
Do you believe customs should be deleted if RB4 adds it as DLC? The obvious answer is YES! Do to the fact that, you should essentially buy the track on RB4 to support Harmonix… but is it more than that? To me Im of the party who believes that having a track in RB3 gives you not only Keys support for certain songs, but also the pro-instruments (outside of Pro-Drums). I also believe that not everyone is as invested in RB4 if they had discovered it late & found out about customs. Literally theres no 2 ways about it, us as a community will usually choose RB3 Customs over RB4 everytime. Now, with the deletion of RB4 DLC on here, I can be bluntly honest with you guys, theres a community dedicated to recreating tracks from RB4 into RB3 or even preserving old customs, now out of respect for C3 & for the sake of not getting this thread locked, I refuse to give out that information in this thread. However, I will say that its more convenient for some to just get everything on RB3. I am in the minority that has RB4 & the biggest issue for me is the calibration, I cant even set it to play 1 song correctly, yet I never even had to set the calibration on RB3 as it seems to have set itself. Regardless of all of that though, I also believe that you should give some attention to RB4 & its customs because without Harmonix we wouldnt have customs in the first place. I know we all love customs & yes they tried to stop us from this even being a thing with TU5, but we have to appreciate the makers of the game. 🤞 for customs in RB4 but the reality of it is, they kind of have to link tracks that become DLC in order to save the site, you know legal stuff, but also to support Harmonix, which really is the reason why we are even able to have this community in the first place (& red octane).
Sorry for the rambling, but how do YOU guys feel.
March 22, 2019 at 5:02 am #503986I don’t see any reason why the customs vs RB4 DLC situation will change or should change to be honest.
I think we’ve got a pretty good thing going here.
March 22, 2019 at 10:34 am #503988If you want to be part of a community that is guaranteed to be right now, as we speak, the scrutiny of Harmonix legal team who is pondering whether to shoot a C&D first or to sue them directly, you can be part of that community. If you want to be part of a community that does everything possible not to be the target of legal action, that’s us. It’s not exclusive, you can be part of both, just know that one of those is probably the subject of legal calls within Harmonix, and it’s not us.

You guys will always say the same thing, nobody will change your mind, which is a good thing. You guys are protecting C3 with taken those customs down. Now if others try to go searching for those customs or old customs, thats different, but I remember trying to post about the RB4 to RB3 customs project before on a thread & you guys shut that down REAL QUICK. That was stupid on my part to think you guy would actually allow that to take place. Even with the counter arguments in place (but its a very simple concept haha). You dont want legal action to take place. Btw to anyone else, no I will not give you the website for customs that are no longer on here.
March 22, 2019 at 5:17 pm #503994Hm, risk getting a C&D/suffering through a lawsuit that will likely severely damage several people’s livelihoods as well as shutting down over a decade’s worth of hard work and killing a community of wonderful people that put all their time and effort into a wonderful hobby, or not be able to play “Stranglehold”?
I think I know my answer. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

I wish more people would see it that way, instead of the common but I want that song! argument. Sure at one point I was one of the few that acted that way, but its more about protection more than anything. I hope those reading this thread who dont understand why you guys do what you do, will finally learn & hopefully stop asking.
March 22, 2019 at 6:39 pm #504001ive quite a few customs that we did and i got them before being taken down…since my 360 doesnt connect to the net nowadays(has the old wireless adaptor) i keep em for 3…but i also go but the same songs in 4.i play alot of both and since songs no longer carry over when purchased..it builds library for both games…harmonix get hiers and i get mine…win win
March 22, 2019 at 7:51 pm #504005Yeah I’m not sure there’s much to discuss really. We’re all thankful and supporting HMX for creating this thing, and in the old days when they had bigger budget they were honestly one of the most ambitious and coolest game makers I’ve ever seen. Bringing on full classic albums (like the entire London Calling) instead of just hit collections, RBN, the amount of love and details in TB:RB, and of course Keys and Pro instruments, and so on. Times are obviously harder now but we should always be supportive of them. And of course, not to mention the risk of lawsuits taking this site down and harming personal lives of people.
Also, I honestly say it with great sadness, but with HMX’s current DLC release schedule (and half of the tracks being “rewind” tracks anyway), the risk of having HMX releasing a song you’re working on is pretty minimal…

You are absolutely right man. I was one of the people who got into it sort of late, to the point where RB4 was right around the corner & Beatles Rock Band DLC was getting deactivated, which although at the time I was seriously aggravated, I understand the purpose. With the running out of licensing for certain bands, songs & Albums, its not a shock that most are either not transferred between RB3 & 4 or someone tried to ask for it on here, & gets the thread locked & they end up looking dumb.
Youre right though but certain songs it was a matter of time. Like Hoobastanks The Reason & Looking Glass Brandy Youre A Fine Girl. Even some lesser known tracks got into RB4 which although we were shocked, if its requested I guess its gets through haha.
March 22, 2019 at 9:44 pm #504009I just wanted some songs with Pro Keys and Guitar. Then they all suddenly are gone because the same song that I wanted to play shows up on the game I don’t even play and can’t play cause it doesn’t have Pro Keys. LIke what happens if they start releasing a ton of Genesis? Are we going to have to tear down the Genesis Chronicles? Or other popular things WE created first? I don’t like what is going on, but I can’t protest about it either.

Genesis Chronicles can be gone too if the songs got release in RB4. No matter what…C3 will take down songs that are realeased in RB4. That’s the rules.

WE created it first on THEIR game. Important distinction. Anyway, even if you don’t agree with supporting them, would you rather risk a lawsuit that would take down THE ENTIRE SITE, plus severely damage the people that made all this possible?
It’s just a bit greedy. Sure, some songs are on RB4 without keys, so that means you’ll never play them with keys. Sucks, yeah, but you “want some songs with pro keys”?/ C3 has literally given you thousands of those for free. So you won’t have that specific song, it’s not something worth risking lawsuits for.
And as I said, with HMX current DLC policy, it’s hardly even a bother. They’re releasing on average 1-2 new songs a week (not counting rewind) and it’s mostly mainstream stuff. I find it incredibly unlikely they’ll just suddenly pull out a dozens of tracks of a 70’s prog band. And if they do, yeah it will be deleted from this site. But even in this incredibly unlikely scenario, you’ll still have all the songs on your hard drive, so I’m not really sure what you’re complaining about…
March 24, 2019 at 1:51 am #504028Speaking of, are new purchasable songs still added to the database here so we have an easier way to buy them straight from the XBL/PSN stores?

No, but I’ve heard that’s something that will be continued in the future. Presumably when farottone finishes and releases the new database.
April 3, 2019 at 10:31 pm #504228I only started using customs in the past six months. Been playing since launch of RB1 and am still paying for and downloading RB4 DLC up until today. I’d love to be able to have all the songs I have across both platforms available in one place but equally I would never want to see anything that risked this community so why risk it?
