So I’ve posted a few songs that only had vocals and some harmonies, but I haven’t added instruments because I’m still figuring out how to use CAT and autogenerate EMH. I’m starting to think I did something wrong with installion of CAT or something. Either way, I can chart tracks fairly well, but I can never build songs, so is there anyone who has any advice or is willing to help?

CAT can seem really confusing at first, but once you get it up and running, it’s actually remarkably easy to use. What exactly is giving you trouble? Are you able to access it through Reaper?

How exactly do I do that? I’m not sure if I was able to. Like, I got Python and can open up CAT, but anything I do with CAT doesn’t seem to affect really anything Reaper.

CAT is basically a Reaper add-on. When you’re in Reaper, click on “Actions” at the top and select “Show action list.” If CAT is installed properly, it should be listed under “Custom: Cat.py”.

If you want to create EMH reductions for, say, your guitar chart, double click on the guitar track, select “Custom:Cat.py” in the action list, and then another box will pop up giving you a whole bunch of options. Down at the bottom, in the Supersets section, you’ll see a button that says “Automatic reductions (5 lane)”. Click on that and you’re good to go. Drum reductions can be created by clicking on “Automatic reductions (drums).”

Ooooh I get it now. Now, my only question is, how do you install it correctly? Like do you need to install Python to a certain directory or move the CAT files to a certain directory?

You really need to read the documents before you author, these are “step 1” questions addressed in the docs.

Thank you so much. And like I said, I do apologize for not reading into as much as I should’ve.

CAT is not a tool for beginners, if you literally haven’t built a song yet, first learn to build a song through Magma, then come back to CAT once you’ve learned the ropes. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”>
