(Controversial) Question regarding Brand New customs

Before I start, this topic is going to be very controversial so please beware. So, I know a lot has been going on for the past couple of days regarding the front man of Brand New (Jesse Lacey) and I know this may be in poor taste to ask but are the creators that planned on doing Brand New customs going to stop because of what happened? I am in no way tying to condone pedophilia in any type of way. I have lost respect for Jesse Lacey, not the band. Mainly due to the fact that the members of the band might have not known about what was going back on in the earlier years. I still like the band’s music. Always have since I discovered them and most likely always will. I don’t let something that the band does stir me away from the artistic value that I found in the music. This is all in personal opinion, but I was just curious as to what is going to be done about the customs that are going to be made for this band. If they are going to be dropped and not made, that is actually understandable and if it is the other way around, then great. I am deeply sorry if this offends anyone because I know things happen to people and it affects on a personal level very deeply. I also hope that I don’t get banned for talking about controversial topics. Thanks for reading and I hope you understand where I am coming from about how I still like the band’s music regardless of what happened even though it is horribly wrong. Again, sorry if I have offended.
While any sort of pedophilia and sexual assault is absolutely reprehensible, I believe that still making Brand New customs is okay. I’ve never listened to Brand New, but clearly a lot of people enjoy them. If people enjoy the music and want to make customs, I think they should.
An artist’s music is separate from his personal life, unless his compositions are about his personal affairs/matters.
There should be no issue making more customs from the band, just because of the actions of one member. The onus is on those that seek to complain about it.
Also, you need not fear and apologize for asking, no one’s going to (or should for that matter) accuse you of being a lesser being for still liking someone’s music. I’m of the belief that people respect each other’s opinions.
Anyone is entitled to think whatever they want about any artists. That doesn’t take away your right to release songs on here. We are not taking a beer with these artists, we’re just playing over their songs.
He won’t be getting any money from our customs so I think it’s fine, just like that one Gary Glitter custom Farottone released.

Anyway, to add to what has been said already, we have a Charles Manson song in the DB, so…

It’s off one of my favorite albums of all time. There are still songs on that album I want to play. I am trying my best not to cross the two over (what the music meant to me versus the despicable acts he’s accused of), but I do understand how it it can become all meshed together, especially with music since there is personal content injected into releases, which leads to outrage. With actors, someone’s handing you lines and you’re playing a character, so it’s easier to try and separate (though, with that, you have facial recognition). With that said, it probably wouldn’t stop me from charting more since the music, in relation to my life, is how I weight it. Not in relation to his. He was the catalyst for the music, but ultimately I decide how it affects me.
Interesting subject. It’s interesting how the gravity and morality of the situation and each person involved differs.
I look at things like Brand New (Sexual Harrasment of a minor) and As I Lay Dying (Attempted Assassination of Wife) — These things are in no doubt horrible, but it doesn’t really stop people from listening to the music that they created, or even necessarily stop them from supporting the artists at all.
If you look at the opposite end of the spectrum, you have a situation like Lostprofits (Incredibly horrific pedophilia charges), the band was shuttered overnight, it became taboo to even think about listening to their music or liking the band.
In most cases, people want to separate the artist and the the art. It just isn’t always possible to do so. I can’t really see disallowing an artist from being charted, but at the same time, I definitely understand an artist being looked at in bad taste.
I share the same stance that BornGamerRob holds. The arts, in and of itself are an expression of most every subject matter we as a species are capable of feeling. Good, bad, admirable or despicable, they (the subject matter in question) are inherently of our nature whether we agree with them or not.
On the whole, I believe that most people are able to discern between what is merely artistic expression and what is a physical reality that (for whatever reason) they chose to either support or despise. Expressed subject matter when absorbed, pondered and shared openly for discussion with others can be an awesome tool for increased awareness. It’s up to us as to whether we feel the input is something we want to be exposed to.
Good case in point is The Police’s “Don’t Stand So Close To Me”. I perceive it to be an expression of the inner moral struggle of one man’s inappropriate temptation towards a minor. There’s also Kiss’ “Christine Sixteen”, my god, by today’s standards that song would’ve NEVER hit mainstream radio. By expressing these ideas, does it make these men pedophiles? No,…they aren’t (as far as we know)….so I can in good conscience, enjoy these songs for what they are….pure fantasy and rockin’ entertainment….nothing more.
If someone else thinks the subject matter is in bad taste and ‘don’t wanna listen to that CRAP‘…well, that’s their prerogative, just turn the damned thing off! It ain’t no skin off my nose!! Just don’t tell me what I can or cannot choose to listen to.
If an artist expresses themselves on a level that impacts someone to take actual physical action….well that’s on the individual, not the artist.
By the same token, if an artist takes action in the physical reality to something that I find horrific……I may despise the artist for their shameful act from that point on, but I won’t necessarily ignore or disown an expression of something positive or entertaining they’ve shared in the past that has impacted me to incorporate or reaffirm the expression into my own world.
We all have our moral boundaries and we should be able to individually define what those boundaries are for ourselves without fear. The real danger is when we can’t or won’t look into the mirror in order to really see who and what we are as ‘Humans Being’ (Thanks V.H.). Mainstream Media and Political Correctness has made our society ‘thin skinned’ and afraid to acknowledge our own Yin and Yang, for better AND worse.

Unless the song is about molesting kids then I don’t care what sick shit the singer did with regards to playing the song on rock band.
I got some pretty strongly felt responses when I said I was not going to stop listening to or playing the Rooftops song from Lego. I can’t say I’m going to keep playing Brand New songs because I’m not really playing anymore, but my opinion is the same. And I say that being father to two.

Let’s face it, if anyone listens to hip hop or rap they are bound to listen to some heavy misogynistic stuff IN the song…
