Sammy Hagar – “There’s Only One Way to Rock” (Show Floor Reject)

CrazyCanuck and I were blown away that this song wasn’t sponsored. First, because there’s not much Sammy Hagar in RB and second, look at the title! It says “Rock” right in it! Acceptance for songs with “Rock” in the title should be automatic.

I guess unlike Sammy, the C3 Authors feel that there is actually more than one way to rock. :raise:

Good job Colonel & Crazy Canuck, Song number two that should have been on the show floor.

Sorry how did this not get on show floor? I mean this is what should be coming out on c3 Weekly, quality song all bells and whistles, Instant download for me.

In all fairness, I’m sure the C3 authors have very full plates between their own customs, those which they sponsor, those on which they collaborate and helping others fix problems in the forums – not to mention those of them who produce manuals and video tutorials (and amazing programs) for the rest of us.

I hold no resentment for these songs being passed on, but I have to say that the lack of communication from the C3 authors on the show floor can be frustrating. If anyone was interested in Sammy or MDD, a quick note of ‘interest” to me would have gone a long way, even if the custom wouldn’t see the light of day for a few more months. To work on a show floor custom for so, so many hours, only to hear not a word about it for nearly two months just feels wrong. Nyx’s “triage passes” are a great idea, but if someone is actually interested (albeit too busy to sponsor at that moment), a quick PM might settle the original authors mind a bit. I have spoken to a few authors about this and we basically share the same view. We kind of feel like we’re leaving a sacrificial offering on the altar of the Customs Gods, then retreating to a corner and shivering in fear, hoping the Gods will approve. When they don’t respond at all, we start to question their existence. So to speak.

I may return to releasing customs in the forums only, mainly because of the time invested in a show floor custom that doesn’t get picked up. If I happen to share something in the forum that a C3 author would like to see get the full treatment, I’d be happy and honored to pull that song and polish it up as best I can. But putting 50+ hours into a song on nothing but hope – then hearing nothing but crickets? Not too sure about that. :raise:

Just my two cents. You guys are doing great things here at C3 – keep it up! :c00l:

Then why can’t great great authors like Colonel have a chance at self putting his work? I mean giving other authors a chance? I know its not my place to dictate but surely people like Colonel, MiltoniusPrime, funkydunkleman etc deserve to be given a shot, i mean i think there should be clearer structures to who and how, i think how the current system is, it really puts people off that work that they have put in is scrutinised and chosen.

Yes i understand that some authors including myself are not ready for this but maybe have a “rough cut” section or restructure how The C3 database is? maybe have a sub category for other authors.

so there is my Two Cents on the Matter,

Anyways off the subject Hopefully in Next couple of Weeks Heaven can be finished off when i get time.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it is that I am years away from having the skills and knowledge that it takes to be an independant C3 author. There are countless areas of skill that I would need to improve to be of that caliber. Thank you for your vote of confidence, but my knowledge/authoring skillset compared to theirs? It’s like placing a third-grader beside a post-grad student and asking “What’s the difference?”

All authors you mentioned have been contacted to be part of C3 (not 100% sure about MP). If they are not, it’s not because we want to be a closed community, we are a *collective*. Producing a C3 custom is time consuming and not everybody is interested, understandably so, in authoring all instruments they don’t play and working on stuff they don’t care about (like practice venues and such). If you could see our FTP folder you would see a loooong list of names who are not releasing anymore and very very few names that have stuck through the months. We have reached out to basically every author we have recognised as possibly being ready “for the primetime” during our 15 months lifespan.

Regarding a “rough cut” section, that’s what I wanted to do a long time ago and it may still happen, but on a database only level, our releases still need to be definitive (hence the headache about pro keys…).

Personally, I’ve enjoyed working under a sponsor. I’ve had the pleasure to work with LowLander2 and Nyx and I have learned a lot. But again, I am far from comfortable enough (as are they, I’m sure) to assume my charts are even close to final-product quality. The C3 authors hear things in the songs that I don’t, recognize things I don’t and know things I just don’t know or habitually forget. At this point, creating a C3 custom is akin to working at a job for me. There’s so much to know and remember – never mind the creativity that’s open to interpretation and the fact that you want to please the sponsor and not look like an idiot in the process. I work hard to make less work for them, but sometimes end up doing more work than I really needed to or completely missing what they were driving after.

Like I said, I have a ways to go before even I’d be “C3-happy” with my work, sans sponsor. It’s a scary thought. :wth:

            Well said Colonel.

When you release a song it is an instant download for me, generally I have the same taste in music that you do.

C3 has a tough choice to make each week for what they release & I applaud them for what they do. I realise they do it for the love of the game & most times they are going to pick songs they like or prefer to work on. I don’t always like the tunes they release but I also understand they can’t please everyone.

I like your idea of just releasing them & in the other customs section & if C3 sees something they like or want to release the C3 way then so be it. That would be a boost to your confidence as an author. To not get a response when posting a show floor try out would be more like once bitten, twice shy!!

Glad to see a FB release for Heaven. Really hoping to see Drums added to Getting Away with Murder and Tired.

Full Band (with drums and keys!) Update

            Hoobastank – “The Reason”

DenVaktare was kind enough to chart up the drums on what is (was) my most popular non-full-band (aka- incomplete) custom. I then polished the vocals, added the harmony, reworked the guitar and bass (heavily) and, for the very first time, charted 5-lane keys (by ear :raise: )

What we have now is a more accurate, more complete and, hopefully, more enjoyable full band custom with keys from Colonel, the keys-charting virgin. :cripes: I probably could have found a midi file and attempted pro keys, but one step at a time.
