Title says it all really.
So I’m working on a conversion of an old drum chart of A Nightmare to Remember and as you know, it has some very quick 16th triplets on double bass right at the start and was wondering how to chart it for single bass. If I straight up half the notes this still ends up being very quick for most people — even though that’s how it would have been played by Mike Portnoy.
So what I really want to know is, in a situation like this, would you chart it realistically as if you were to straight up completely remove the left foot part, while potentially alienating some who don’t quite have the ability to play it? Or instead would you maybe do something like swap it to quarter notes, thus changing the time signature of the bass pedal part entirely?

If the real part is reasonable to hit with double bass pedals on an RB drumkit, the left-foot-removed version should be possible too. But if it’s ridiculous to hit with a stock pedal I would bring it down to quarters. It’s more about hardware limitations at that point.
Generally, the player can be expected to play 2 16ths in quick succession up to around 160-170bpm on a stock pedal. HMX let those out, and we should to. I do not always agree, but that’s comparable with what they have released.
If you have tripples such as:
OOO[G+R]
Take out the left foot and see how fast it’s playing.
O_O[G+R]
160-170 is kind of the threshold for two quick hits. Other factors include if there are several of these in a row. While it may seem difficult for a single stock pedal to hit, players also understand it’s a Devil Tier level song. As a drummer in real life, I still could never do Painkiller easily on one stock (back when that’s all I had). It wasn’t meant to be like that, but they still charted it that way. Brutal, but possible.
