“DJ” isn’t a option to search for, so I don’t know if this has been asked already, sorry. I was wondering what the official stance on charting record scratches in songs is. We’ve been charting them to the Keys track for a while, in songs where they occur, but as far as I know, pitching the individual scratches must be near-impossible, for Pro Keys, so is it something best left uncharted?
It probably depends on how relevant to the melody the scratches are. If they are a key part of the melody, go for it, on keys or guitar, depending on the type of song.
I think there’s some Beastie Boys or Rage Against the Machine songs that chart scratches but those are guitar-only. I really remember thinking “how did pro keys chart this” on a certain song but I don’t remember if it was scratching or some other noise.
Maybe just choose a random note in the range and chart that. Scratches are more about the rhythm than the pitch anyway.
DJ sounds could be charted on Guitar or Keys. Drops in dubstep are mostly charted on Bass. Check out Skrillex songs charted by Gigakoops and you’ll see the truth ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
The only song I can think of which has this is the RBN song “Andromeda” by Bluefusion, which has a short DJ section charted on guitar (https://youtu.be/oRsP68sRSlI?t=1m55s). Additionally, the section name there is “DJ solo”
Herbie Hancock “Rockit”?
