Changing tube colors in Reaper?

Hi. Look at this:
I’m charting guitar for the first time and things feel a bit backwards because of this. Every time I see the green tube at the top position, I think it’s the green fret. That would be logical. I understand it’s at the top of the pecking order because it’s the “highest note,” but my human brain says it should just be flipped 90° to the left and represent a plastic fret board.
But the orange fret is represented by the color green.
And the blue fret is puke green.
Yellow lucked out. Good thing, because I can’t even read yellow text on a white background.
The red fret is orange.
The green fret is red.
Is it possible to change this?
January 21, 2018 at 2:01 pm #494553In the MIDI window: File > Customize note colors > Load color map from file… The RBN plugins carry the color maps IIRC (otherwise it’s another tool we provide) and they should be installed by default in REAPERDatacolor_maps. There are 3 maps for drums, strings/keys and vocals. The one you need is rockband_guitarbass.png

From here, right?
If so, the rockband_guitar.png is loaded into the template I’m using by default. And I confirmed the file exists. But it doesn’t seem to be working…

I always load it per MIDI item, because Guitar/Bass/Keys don’t share the color map with Drums and I also don’t want Pro Keys/Guitar/Bass to use these colors.
To do that, from the opened midi item: File -> Customize note colors -> Load color map from file.
You might want to edit the default C3 template to load the color map from where it’s located on your PC and then overwrite it. That way, you won’t have to reload it several times for each new project you start.
Most importantly, be sure to set notes to be colored by pitch. From your midi window: View -> Color notes by -> Pitch.

That’s not the MIDI window nor the command path I outlined. The MIDI window is the window you open to author (PART GUITAR, PART DRUMS, etc.) Once you open one of those you can follow the command path I gave you. The reason we do this on a per-window basis has been perfectly explained by Whizzer.

Ah. I didn’t know I had to right click the tab! I kept going to the command bar looking for it with no luck. You know what happens when you assume… but I’ve got it now. Thanks to both of you!
January 21, 2018 at 4:52 pm #494559For the sake of this thread and others who might find it, if your midi window is docked (like mine does by default), you will first need to undock your window and then the File menu will appear on the free floating window. The dock button is at the top of the docked midi window.

You can do it while docked too, just right-click anywhere on the MIDI Editor ruler (the grey area with the measure numbers) and it will show File, Edit, Navigate, etc. in the form of a context menu.
