July 27, 2014 at 3:52 am #425599Did you know that Station Squares skyline in the CGI opening before the main menu is based of Vancouver , Canada?
You did post that earlier in the thread (and in the other thread), yeah. I knew the United Federation was heavily influenced by the US as I played certain games. I am almost curious to see if the film is going to go for anything politically charged in that direction. Maybe making the UF the result of some sort of fascist regime hundreds of years ago, or maybe the result of a civil war. Maybe, knowing how films tend to get when doing these kinds of things, it’ll be a new sort of order after some sort of catastrophic event, that turns out is sort of evil itself, so Sonic & Co. have to battle both the president and Dr. Robotnik. Or maybe Dr. Robotnik is the head of the UF!
Knowing films that’s probably how they’ll go. Either that or stick to pre-Sonic Adventure Sonic, maybe basing it off of Sonic SatAM ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />

I personally would ball up that idea and throw it in the trash bin but it’s your opinion and I respect opinions.
I like stuff set in large urban cities with highways built unbelievably high in the air.
But there is one city I forgot to mention…
Crisis City
This city is most likely the remenants of Empire City despite many things saying it’s Soleanna’s New City.
I think not.
Where you actually play the stage is likely the brownstones of the city which is notably lacking the cloud level breaching skyscrapers of E.C. but Sonic News Network state’s this similarity too.
What city do you think it is? (Don’t say NYC just because the stage has Central Park road signs.)

I’m actually trying to think like big Hollywood producers. When they thing “dark and edgy” that’s usually what they go for. Either that or they make a love triangle. I think the idea of a love triangle between Sonic, Amy and Tails would be absolutely hilariously awful and braindead, but knowing film makers they’re probably going to do it. It’ll lead up to a big dramatic scene where Sonic and Tails stop being friends because of it, only to band together to beat Robotnik in the climax.
It’d be absolutely awful, but I would not be shocked if it happened. Hell, they added that shit in The Hobbit, too.

But you have no additional evidence it is NYC.
Sonic News Network States the following likely origins of the city…
-Station Square ( The Central Park road signs are also in Generations version of perfect chaos)
-Empire City ( The hub world in unleashed is a Central Park-esque area )
-Central City
-Soleanna New City
-Westopolis
-New York City
I disagree with NYC for a lot of reasons i’m not explaining.
July 27, 2014 at 4:17 am #425604I disagree with NYC for a lot of reasons i’m not explaining.Well if you are not going to present an actual counter argument that means I win, so it is in NYC!
July 27, 2014 at 4:18 am #425606I disagree with NYC for a lot of reasons i’m not explaining. You mind telling us why you won’t explain? I’d think that if you want to convince someone that it isn’t based off of NYC you’d list your reasons. Then again, I don’t know enough about Sonic lore to even tell the difference between the cities. I’ve only played a few of the games and watched Let’s Plays of others, with the LPs paying more attention to the gameplay and conversation between the LPers than the actual plots.

Fine! I’ll explain.
Sure , it has Central Park road signs , yes it may have a color drained Empire State Building , and yes Act 2 of the Generations version has an area that looks like Wall St. But you forgot that Empire City was almost only based on downtown NYC with the only external references being that the fountains in the hub looked like the ones in Chicago and various Seattle-ish office buildings but that was it. NYC has no elavated highways runnin’ through it but Empire City does and there are ones in Crisis City that look like shortened versions of them and some of the car models are variously based on Empire City automobiles. But most promising is that some of the buildings look exactly the same and have the same texture ( just not destroyed in E.C. ) . Can you try and beat that?

Simple, this happens in the future, they re-arranged parts of the city before the collapse of civilization, just not Central Park and Empire State Building because they were too iconic.
July 27, 2014 at 4:35 am #425613I would think that the city may be inspired by many different cities. If we’re talking about just aesthetics, it shares simularities to many different cities, including NYC, Chicago, etc.
Then again I didn’t pay attention to the levels in Sonic Adventure or Sonic ’06. I was too busy dying all the time because I suck at those games.

You forgot that in the alternate timeline the Day of Disaster ocurred when elise died on the Egg Carrier and then the day after the world literally became HELL. That is not enough time to rearrange parts of the city completely and Sonic Unleashed occurs a few years later and there are parts of the stage almost IDENTICAL to Crisis City just with plant life and lack of destruction.

July 27, 2014 at 4:46 am #425618Are we still talking about this movie they’re making, or are we taking a lesson in American archetecture?
Anyway, if they do use the cities from the games, I do wonder how those will be designed. I seriously doubt it’ll be like the games, because if we’re going for a grimdark live-action/CGI hybrid film, ramps and stuff in the middle of traffic would seem rather silly. Of course, if they ditch the grimdark thing and make it light and colorful it’d probably fit a little better, though why they’d use live action for cities that are like in the game is beyond me.

As a final note you are being completely oblivious that Crisis City only exists in this alternate timeline. I think we’ve settled this is slightly different than the Empire City in the main canon ( Sonic ’06-2006 Sonic Unleashed-2008 plenty of time for changes to it though probably not very major differences. Now back to other Sonic stuff?
July 27, 2014 at 5:08 am #425622I don’t know much about the modern Sonic lore, tbqh. I’ve only completed Shadow the Hedgehog, and that was years ago. I tried Sonic Adventure and got frustrated a lot with the controls and quit. I tried Sonic ’06 and got so frustrated with the controls and bugginess that I quit and looked up a Let’s Play instead. I tried Sonic Unleashed, and while I had fun with the running levels, I quit at the first Werehog stage due to boredom and looked up another Let’s Play. I enjoyed what I’ve played of Generations, though I didn’t play it to completion because I was lended a friend’s copy (a Sonic fan friend of mine tried to convert me by giving me a few games to try out).
So I have a rather limited knowledge of the geography of the Sonic universe, because I never payed attention to it. I do know a bit of the individual plots of the games I’ve completed and watched LPs of, but that’s about it. So sorry if I don’t necessarily know all the details and intricate callbacks to previous Sonic games hidden within the city levels.
