Nice Job! Thanks very much for these. I’m anxiously hoping that “Living in the Past” (the single) will be one of those songs included (if I’m reading into your post accurately : “There is still plenty more in the Tull Saga”) in your upcoming Tull repertoire.

“Bouree” is one of the reasons why I wouldn’t mind learning the flute someday.

Thanks for a great batch of Tull, looking forward with the rest, to the rest!

Hell yes. I am ready for lame-brained antics and jumping in the air.

Get yourself a copy of Bursting Out. It is a live recording, and spans much of their better years, including a 12 minute Thick as a Brick.

Four new customs for September – two more Jethro Tull songs, and two songs that fit the One Hit Wonder category.

First up, another from Tarantino’s Soundtracks. Surf Rider, by the Lively Ones played over the end credits to Pulp Fiction. The song was recorded by the band in 1963. The Lively Ones were an LA group that did mostly cover songs, and they did quite well with this re-issue of a Venture’s song, Spudnik. In fact, the Ventures re-released that song a few years later, but called it Surf RIder the second time around.

    Drums are charted by AJFOne23.

The other One Hit Wonder is from another LA group, Thee Sixpence, playing a few years later. They had released three singles, songs that faded away quickly, but they had high hopes for their new single, a song called The Birdman of Alkatrash. If you are curious, find the song on You-Tube. It is a really attrocious tune.

Anyway, they needed a B-side song for the single, and planned to use an instrumental written by their keyboardist, Mark Weitz, and their guitarist, Ed King (you may have heard of Ed King – he would later play for Lynyrd Skynyrd). Unfortunately, their producer didn’t like instrumentals, and wanted vocals. He hired a lyricist, John Carter, to write lyrics for the song.

When it came time to record, no one in the band liked the new lyrics, and their singer wanted nothing to do with them. He talked a friend of his into singing lead, while he sang back-up harmonies. With the single done, they released Alkatrash, and awaited fame and glory.

Naturally, Alkatrash trashed, but, local stations kept playing the B-side song. Sensing a possible hit, their label re-issued the single nationally, putting Alkatrash on the B-side, and using the band’s new name, Strawberry Alarm Clock. The song took off, spending 16 weeks on the Billboard chart, finally reaching number one in November of 1967.

Stupid lyrics aside, it really is a great melody – hope you enjoy:

The other songs are both from Jethro Tull. These are collaborations with Nsw1-6.

    OMG!!,DUDE, R U #&<$!>^ SERIOUS?!?
Strawberry Alarm Clock’s “Incense & Peppermints”?…..and FULL BAND to boot?!?
I gotta go and get a fresh change of undergarments and gather my thoughts so that I can ‘properly’ express my gratitude for doing this one……

bsbloom, in my opinion, if there was a C3 equivalent for the ‘Congressional Medal of Honor’……I’m looking at a recipient!

You R  O  C  K THANK YOU!

Thanks for Tull and the Pulp Fiction soundtrack as well but the above item I just can’t get over! <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
